WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, pleaded no contest Tuesday to a drunken-driving charge in his home state of of South Dakota. He was convicted and fined $350.

Brady remained in Washington, and his attorney entered the plea for him.

The congressman was also ordered to pay $53 in court fees and had his right to drive in South Dakota suspended for 30 days. The punishment was standard for first-offense drunken driving in South Dakota, local officials said.

Brady was arrested on the charge Oct. 7 and posted $400 bail. On Tuesday, Clay County Judge Mary Dell Cody allowed him to use that bail to pay the fine.

2. *medicine* and speeding - former gov.
blows through an intersection and hits and runs with a death in the wake. Claim was no drinking, but medicine; and tried (not sure of the outcome) to make the state pay for his court fees b/c he was returning from a political/state function.

3. Guess he's trying to salvage his seat
From a purley intellectual standpoint,a an interesting tactic however would have been to invoke congressional immunity... Can't stop a congressman from getting to Washington (its in the constitution). Any evidence obtained pursant to an illegal stoppage of congressman would have to be thrown out.

4. He is a TEXAS representative. Poor wording in article.
He may have grown up in South Dakota, but if he is an elected official in Texas, then Texas is his "home state". I think he has close ties to DeLay.

5. Well, when you see the three letters
R, T, and X together, you can pretty much bet he has close ties to DeLay.
