Blow for Bush in regional polls
November 9, 2005

A last-minute intervention by the US president, George Bush, failed to win the governorship of the southern state of Virginia for his Republican party in a night of improved election results for the Democrats.

City and state polls in the so-called off-year election saw Democrats win the governor's office in New Jersey and the defeat of propositions from Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to cap spending and limit the powers of the California state legislature.

<snip>

Mr Bush threw himself into the campaign late on with an appearance at a Monday night rally for Jerry Kilgore, the Republican candidate, but failed to swing the contest. The US president is at his lowest approval ratings since taking office in 2001, while his party has been damaged by criminal charges against Tom DeLay, its powerful former leader in Congress.

A blow for Bush? That's putting it mildly.

6. Ohio. Naturally.
In the NJ race (Corzine v Forrester), the polls showed Forrester far closer to Corzine than he really was; I think he got whupped 55-45. Perhaps the Nasty Wives ads did him in.

There were a couple of heartbreakers, but overall, we had a good night. Now, we get to kick back for a day or two, bask in the glow of a small-but-decisive set of victories, and then get back to work!

2006 is next. Then 2008. It's all uphill, every inch. But fortunately, we Democrats know how to work hard -- and clean.

9. "2006 is next"
Here in St Paul, Minnesota, Chris Coleman defeated Bush lackey Randy Kelly for the mayoralship. As the NY Times and everyone else has noted, this defeat happened because Kelly stupidly endorsed Bush for the presidency last year. But the local Republican news media responded by mounting its hate and attack methods against the Democrats. Here's what I mean -- the following is from a local web forum:

"Coleman wins - Kelly loses.

Immediately after the results were announced last night, {Republican reporter} "Dark Star" of WCCO acknowledged the negative impact of Kelly's endorsement of Bush. And then - the Republican HATE machine went full throttle when he said,

* Bush is a "good guy"

* John Kerry is a "jerk" and a "snob"

* Hillary Clinton will never run for the presidency as she is connected to the Vince Foster suicide

We all know, of course, that Foster's suicide was fully investigated by the police and FBI and that it was ruled a suicide - not a murder - and that the White House had no role in his fatal action. Still, the reich wingers continue to make their baseless insistence that there had been such a connection.

As always, reich winger "Dark Star" provided absolutely no basis for his claims --- this is precisely what Republicans always do. It is a good bet that the Republican hate machine will continue to make such hate filled insinuations up until the next election. "

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The 2006 nomination is on already. And the Republicans have started it with their campaign of hatred and lies.

What will be the Democrats response?

This definitely indicates that things are changing

If we just have the right candidates in 2006 and 2008 that are NOT afraid to talk truth to power I think we will take our country back

10. Bush killed Kilgore
On Morning Sedition, Mark Riley said that Kilgore was actually in a tight race until Bush showed up.

My, how the tide has turned.

19. If there are any stains to be seen in the Bush pResidency
it will be YELLOW Stains, either up his BACK or down the Leg of his Suit Pants..

Might be some brown stains involved too, but that would be the rest of the Republicans, who should now officially be crossing the STREET when Bush shows up..

It really IS going to be funny - we'll have this Schmuck flying in to small states in a HUGE airplane at OUR expense, 50 grand an hour in gas supplied by his pals, they'll build a BIG stage, demand loyalty Oaths from the hand chosen crowd -

and THEN the Repig that Bush is there to Support will be phoning it in - "Uh, sorry Mr Prez, had to take my coke bottles back to the store today for the refund.. oh, and I had to wash my hair.. Maybe next time I can join you on the stage. Maybe you can get a bunch of Boy Scouts to Seig Heil for you while you're there, that would help the party, maybe your ratings too.. gotta run now, other phone is going off, might be the kids are done with soccer practice now.. thanks LOADS!"

Reminds me of the song by the Allman Brothers lamenting about a woman that scaulded him in love, one of the lyrics in the song says, "And when I see that woman, just a walkin' down the street I'm gonna STAND THERE.... and Move Away S l o w..."

ALL YOUR GOVT ARE BELONG TO US bwahahahahahaha!

16. Bush = kiss of death
Just glancing over yesterday's election results, it's looks like, for the most part, anybody who's supporting Bush is getting spanked by the voters. May the trend continue.

23. I have a mental image of him sitting at his Oval Office desk...
...just like Al Pacino at the end of Scarface... with a HUGH pile right in front of him. Then, also like Al Pacino did, he just buries his face in it.

How does he manage to both SUCK and BLOW at the same time? Perhaps he has talents we've been unaware of?.....

.....Nah.
