BREAKING: CNN = Saddam's Defense Cuts Off Dealings with Court
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 09:16 AM by doxieone
All defense lawyers are basically saying the proceedings are illegal.

They will no longer be in contact with the court.

Will look for link.

Saddam's defense cuts off dealings with court

RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein's chief lawyer said on Wednesday lawyers for the former Iraqi president and seven co-defendants would stop all dealings with the tribunal trying them for crimes against humanity.

"The defense committee has decided to consider the November 28 date (for the next hearing) canceled and illegitimate," Khalil al-Dulaimi told Reuters the day after a lawyer for one of the defendants was shot dead in Baghdad.

He was the second defense lawyer to be killed since the trial began on October 19.

2. Mission Accomplished: Saddam keeps his mouth shut about his deals
with the U.S., and particularly the * Family and Administrations (first * prez). The repug admin doesn't want to see him spill his guts, especially with all the other crap they're trying to handle.

Peace.

4. The "trial" only planned on one day of testimony - A Saddam reveals all
was not in the original plan.

11. I heard there was a 15 minute delay or something on the broadcast
The reporters weren't sure why though. Surprised they can't figure out it's so the administration can conveniently edit out anything that might be damaging to them.

3. the last i read about the trial is that it
is not recognized by the un or the hague. this was the bush`s show trial for the legitimacy of the iraqi judicial system and now that is in disarray. another bad day for bush and another tragedy for the people of iraq.

5. On NPR yesterday
they said that it's suspected that the shooter(s) may have been Saddam loyalists who don't want him prosecuted. I was like WTF??? Saddam loyalists with any brains would have shot the prosecutor - not the defense team! Sounds like more Rovian-Orwellian spin to me.

7. I can understand why the UN and the Hague don't recognize it.
Iraq is not yet under its own government. That's *supposed* to happen next month when the Iraqi citizens get to pick from (likely) U.S. supplied candidates.

6. With defense lawyers dropping like flies...it's no wonder. BUT...
could the murders of defense lawyers be an evil attempt to get the trial moved elsewhere?

I'm sure the AM Radio Talking Heads will try and push that concept.

10. Of course I though of that for some time
And, I would say it is quite possible.

Also, these fools have refused any US protection or protection from the Iraqi government because they consider the Iraqi government illegitimate.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if the resistance is knocking off some of the lower level ones to send the trial into chaos. Notice not one of Saddam's own lawyers have been attacked.
