Ensign backs Bush on Iraq: Senator says history will show U.S. was right
And now, from the Last Gasp Society of the Dazed and Confused GOP:

WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Ensign came to President Bush's defense on Tuesday, saying history will show the United States was right to go to war in Iraq.

Ensign, R-Nev., delivered a Senate speech drawing attention to U.S. efforts to rebuild Iraq after unseating Saddam Hussein. He noted Iraqi security force training and the numbers of schools, commercial television stations and independent newspapers that have emerged in the post-war society.

He credited the almost 10 million Iraqis who voted in elections last month to approve a new constitution.

"Because of America's leadership and compassion, the world has witnessed the end of Saddam Hussein's regime and the beginnings of an energetic democracy in Iraq," Ensign said.

2. He hasn't gotten the memo
to slowly back away from the Preznit.

Either that, or he's not running for re-election next year and can afford to agree with overwhelmingly unpopular policy.

11. He thinks he's safe next year

because that's what conventional wisdom, history, seeming minor opponent, and polling in Nevada is saying.

Ensign has been such a Bush/Republican leadership lackey that it's probably not possible for him to distance himself anyway, so he's going the brazen pro-Bush route as the better gamble in his position.

Well, he thinks it's the better gamble for him with his colleagues and constituents. It is at present. In six or eight months it could be a rather different story.

6. Does that include what was destroyed DURING the war?
"He noted Iraqi security force training and the numbers of schools, commercial television stations and independent newspapers that have emerged in the post-war society."

Just wondering, while we're patting ourselves on the back for all the work building up their infrastructure, how much of that infrastructure was destroyed during the fighting.

......oh....and as far as the Iraq security force training goes, have they managed to get more than ONE battalion that's battle-ready?

7. Who is he kidding? History will show that Iraq will either become
an Islamic dictatorship or a hard ass secular dictatorship after the dust settles.

9. History is now, and history has already shown
that Bush was wrong, and that BushCo lied to sell the war. Period.

14. How about the 10 million+ who didn't vote?
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 03:38 PM by daleo
How about the tens of thousands who couldn't vote, because they were killed during the war and education? How about the 2000+ U.S. soldiers who won't get a chance to vote either, because they were killed during the war and invasion?

This guy is a Bush dead-ender.
