Bush Says Jordan Bombings Show Terrorists as Ruthless (Update1)

Nov. 10 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. President George W. Bush said yesterday's bombings of three hotels in Jordan show the world the ruthlessness of terrorists who kill in the name of Islam.

``The world saw with horror the attacks on innocent people in Jordan by killers who defile a great religion,'' Bush said as he began talks with the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh today at the White House.

At least 56 people died in the near simultaneous suicide bombings yesterday in Amman. The Iraqi offshoot of al-Qaeda, led by Jordanian-born terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

``The bombing should remind all of us that there's an enemy in the world that is willing to kill innocent people, willing to bomb a wedding celebration in order to advance their cause,'' Bush said.

12. what the Amman bombings really showed...
...is the utter failure of the "war on terror," which has only made matters worse. It will continue to provide more and more incentive for terror attacks. Conflict will not work to reduce terror. Oppression will not work. Invasion and occupation will not work. There is no military solution.

Jordan attack indicates spread of Iraq violence

Jordanians hold candles during a night vigil at the entrance of the Radisson SAS hotel for victims of Wednesday's suicide attacks that killed at least 57 people and injured hundreds in Amman, Jordan.

AMMAN, Jordan — Islamic militants in Iraq asserted Friday that the deadly coordinated suicide bombings at hotels here this week were carried out by four Iraqis — including a husband-and-wife team — raising new concerns that violence in Iraq is spreading beyond that nation's borders.

An Internet posting in the name of al-Qaida in Iraq made the latest claim of responsibility for the bombings that killed 57 people Wednesday at three Western chain hotels.

It was believed to be the first time a married couple has carried out a suicide attack. The couple bombed the Days Inn after the woman "chose to accompany her husband to his martyrdom," the statement said.

Jordanian officials have found the remains of three males believed to be the attackers but could not confirm a woman was involved. Police were scouring footage from hotel security cameras, and forensic experts were analyzing the severed head of a woman discovered at one hotel.
