NYPD Beefs Up Hotel Security After Jordan Bombings

BEBETO MATTHEWSNEW YORK NY USA -- Following almost simultaneous bombings of U.S. hotels in Amman, Jordan, New York police officers guard the Hyatt Hotel as part of increased security for hotels in New 10, 2005

As the NYPD takes precautions at area hotels following a series of suicide bomb attacks on American hotels in Jordan Wednesday, the U.S. Embassy in Jordan says at least one American citizen was killed in yesterday's bombings there.

The NYPD is redirecting its critical response vehicles and specially trained Hercules teams to hotels around the city. Officials stress there is no specific threat to New York, and that the deployment is standard procedure after any terrorist attack.

Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack on an Internet posting signed in the name of the spokesman for Al Qaeda In Iraq, a group led by Jordanian-born Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
