Chalabi: U.S. troops may leave Iraq in '06

NEW YORK (AP) - U.S. troops could begin leaving Iraq in significant numbers sometime next year, so long as Iraqi forces are properly armed and trained by then, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Chalabi told a U.S. audience on Friday.

Chalabi, the controversial former exile who came to New York after meetings with top U.S. officials in Washington, said the Iraqi army should be equipped with American weaponry and properly trained to protect itself against the armies of its neighbors, which include Syria and Iran.

They must also be given "more latitude" in recruitment, he told a gathering at the Council on Foreign Relations.

"If we do the right thing together, I think significant American troops can be withdrawn from Iraq without causing a serious security threat during 2006, next year," he said.

Then, afterward, when Iraq falls apart, we will return them.

10. I thought he was the minister of oil?
Did he get promoted lately?
Just last year he was Man Accused of Giving Away US Secrets to Iran.
As I remember, they celebrated by trashing his office and apartment.
Did I miss something?

and their ilk in this one as we appropriate another whoppin' batch of moo-la to arm and train Iraqi forces in a desperate attempt to finally "bring 'em home".

How much you wanna bet we'll equip them far better than our troops have been through-out this entire nightmare the BFEE has created?

Edit to add...

First hit when I decided to google to double check my spelling of Carlyle - Heh, go figure.

"...so long as Iraqi forces are properly armed & trained by then", says Cha-Lollygag.

I'm amazed at ChaLobby's endurance. Washington has really tried to get rid of this convicted felon.

19. They don't need him now.
They used him to get into Iraq. They knew he was a liar and a thief. I think he saw the writing on the wall. They used a lot of Iraqis living in the US to be examples for why the war was needed. Helping Bush didn't keep deportation notices away.

15. That's a load, you can start leaving just in time for the 2006 elections
But do not forget to come back, I mean really come back!

This is the person who embezzled money from Jordan, talking national affairs (secrets) with Iran and succeeded in a eleven year endeavor of getting the U.S. and company to take out Saddam. Of course nobody believed this asshole until 2001. Incredible!!!

20. Repubs and Top Dems are starting to agree on this.
A large number of troops will be withdrawn before the '06 Elections.

These troops will stay.

Bush Regime Iraq Successes

2, A military foothold in the ME. Other than Saudi Arabia.

3, No countries will be able to buy Iraqi oil that the U.S. disapproves of.

22. So Chalabi is now in charge of US troops?
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 11:31 PM by Catrina
The only troops who will leave Iraq in time for the 2006 elections, are the extra 40,000 Bush snuck in for the elections.

I am in shock that this guy is in this country bullying Bush et al to put him in power in Iraq. Wasn't his nephew, a judge in the Saddam case, removed from Iraq and accused of murder? What a weakling Bush is. This guy was considered to be a nut in DC until Bush et al took over this government.

I saw him tonight on PBS and was disgusted at the fawning morons who looked like a couple of weaklings, sheepishly asking him about spying for Iran, and giving 'faulty (I hate that mealy mouthed word, lies is the correct word) intelligence' to the US and then allowing him to lie like crazy while they squirmed and sucked up to him. Then they let him thrash Jordan, without a word. Where do they get these people? You could tell he had zero respect for them ~ American fools!! That's what he thinks of this country.

Now, I'm listening to another group of weaklings on Charlie Rose, talking about him as if he were a respected statesman instead of an International Conman ~

The Iraqi people hate him. Read what Riverbend has to say about him. And I know an Iraqi who says he is the most hated man in Iraq, but so was Saddma. Poor Iraqi people. The US is once again going to set them up with a puppet government and they will have decades more of the same thing they had with the last puppet ~

His aides were killed last year, but he was not in the car at the time. But no doubt, our troops will be there, risking their lives to protect this criminal.

Your points are well taken. It may take awhile (I've got 2010 in chimpsrsmarter's pool), but Chalabi's gossamer wings have already seen way too much sun.

21. So we have your permission you crooked asshole?
I think we should leave then also.

You, Chimpy and all the rest of the chicken-hawk/neocon cabal should be left to defend Iraq while true blue American service people have better things to do. Like capture the asshole who really attacked our country, Osama Bin Laden.
