(Clarence) Thomas: Federal Judiciary 'Held Hostage' By Abortion Issue
http://www.newsnet5.com/news/5308817/detail.html

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas says the abortion issue is holding federal court appointments hostage.

Thomas also told a group of law students at the University of Alabama that potential nominees have told him that they aren't interested in an appointment because of the bruising confirmation process.

Thomas, who went through heated confirmation hearings in 1991, said that the only thing the process does is "rats out the agenda of the people asking the questions."

He suggests that the confirmation process be scaled back and not potentially open up seemingly every aspect of a nominee's life.

5. He can't help being an idiot. Blame Spector and Hatch.
Those hearings were when I started voting for women in good earnest. It was absolutely clear those jackasses knew NOTHING about women's lives.

it'd be if this was no longer a federal issue, huh? Or maybe not an issue at all.

6. Anita Hill is and has been an intelligent and class act
So far Thomas has shown neither of these attributes. Nor has he ever.

8. Yep Clarence Thomas will always be thought of as a token
He is no scholar. He was always mediocre. Anita Hill had powerful honest reasons why he shouldn't be appointed to the SC. The GOP wanted the token more than they wanted a qualified justice.

16. That whole confirmation battle
was what first made me really pay attention to politics. I was furious that we could not stop the confirmation.

13. If you want faster appointments, Clarence, tell your buddies...
...to stop nominating extremist assholes. The judiciary is held hostage by the wingnuts in charge, who won't consider promoting anyone not firmly in their camp.

The blame falls on those with the power to do something about the process, not on the issue.

Cannot believe he spoke at a Country Club that has lost it's PGA Status for racial discrimination and is currently being sued for not only management sexual discrimation but also racial discrimination . Good one Clarance. The press was right on top of this one.

18. I agree with him on one point
I don't think that someone's life outside the judiciary should have anything to do with confirmation, unless criminal activity can be demonstrated. The problem is, since the Federalist Society judges refuse to talk about the Constitution in confirmation hearings, they have to be judged on something.

19. It sounds like the Republican Party wants to ignore the wishes
Of the religious right again. They were useful idiots, but the corporate RW doesn't really want to outlaw abortion.
