Lawmaker who claimed immunity sentenced for DUI

State Rep. David Graves, who tried to use legislative immunity to avoid a drunken driving charge, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 days in jail and fined $1,600.
The Macon Republican also was ordered to 20 days of home confinement, 240 hours of community service, and alcohol counseling. His driver's license was suspended for 12 to 18 months.
Because the charge is a misdemeanor, Graves will not have to give up his House seat. He has resigned as chairman of the committee that handles liquor industry legislation.
Graves pleaded guilty to a DUI charge from last year in Cobb County. He was convicted two weeks ago of another charge stemming from a traffic stop Feb. 15 after he left a dinner meeting with other legislators away from the Capitol.
