Kennedy voices concern after meeting Supreme Court nominee Alito

Sen. Edward Kennedy, an early and vocal critic of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, emerged from an hourlong private meeting Tuesday saying he still had serious concerns with Alito's views on key issues such as abortion and privacy rights.

Kennedy, D-Mass., one of the Senate's leading liberal voices and a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, cited Alito's assertion in a 1985 job application that the Constitution does not protect abortion rights.

"I was somewhat troubled by the 1985 memorandum that has been made public," Kennedy said shortly after the one-on-one session with the federal appeals court judge in his Senate office.

Kennedy said Alito, 55, told him he wrote the memo as someone "who was interested in getting a job" in the Justice Department as deputy assistant attorney general. "So I asked him, 'Why shouldn't we consider that the answers you are giving today are an application for another job?" Kennedy said.

2. Question for the hearings
"Judge Alito, were you lying then or are you lying now?"

6. Judge Alto's ambition screwed him up
People with ambition will tell you whatever is necessary to advance their careers. Judge Alto falls into that category. He can't be trusted to rule on any freedom issue.

He is only interested in his own.

5. Dammit,
why isn't the protection of choice covered under the Constitution, Scalito??? The problem with Roe V. Wade, as it is framed, is that it is considered a right-to-privacy, a decision made between a woman and her doctor. Except that it is really a civil right; women can get pregnant, men cannot.
Keep after him, Ted!

11. I am so glad Kennedy
somehow managed to survive long enough to continue to lead the fight against these bastards. He continues to make his brothers proud.

12. And 3 times he's already told the Senate things to "get a job" that
he's turned around and done the opposite once hired.
