WASHINGTON - The House, putting aside questions about the mission in Iraq (news - web sites), gave strong endorsement early Friday to a $87.5 billion package to sustain U.S. military forces and rebuild the shattered nations of Iraq and Afghanistan (news - web sites).

"Congress stood with the president and our soldiers tonight, sending them the support they need to defend our nation and all those working to advance freedom abroad," said Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.

The package, approved 298-121 shortly after midnight, includes nearly $65 billion for military personnel and operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and an additional $18.6 billion for reconstruction efforts in Iraq.

4. * continues to get his way
on just about every issue. I am starting to think that we are small minority that doesn't have a chance in'04. The loan provisions were taken out at the last minute yielding yet another congressional victory for *. How very depressing and discouraging. Our Gov cares more about Iraq than it does the US. There are not enough negative adjectives to describe how I feel about our Government.
