US says Iraq to have credible investigation on torture allegations

WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States said on Wednesday that it believes the Iraqi government will conduct a credible investigation on allegations against Iraqi detainees and it will not affect US policy toward the country.

"We have every reason to believe they can and will" conduct a credible investigation, State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said at a briefing.

When asked if it will have a noxious effect on US policy, Erelisaid: "I don't see the connection, frankly."

..

"They've also said that they're going to be conducting a comprehensive investigation not only into this incident but into all facilities where detainees are being held," Ereli said.

3. Of course you don't see the connection, dumbass Ereli...
Why on earth would the Iraqis torturing Iraqis effect US policy toward the country? Better yet, how could it? I mean what with the fact that we torture Iraqis and other non-Americans in Iraq and Cuba and Afghanistan and Romania and...Poland, how can anyone actually think that we have any right to be upset with the Iraqis and let it affect our policy toward the country? Especially when our policy seems to be 1) arrest bunches of people and clear them later, 2) torture them if you think they may possibly know anything, 3) chalk up all deaths (military and civilian) to helping Iraq live in a free, democratic society.

That'd be kind of funny if the Iraqi's did a credible investigation of the torture in their country and we can't mention to agree on an investigation most of the time.

But alas, the investigation will be just as "credible" as the ones that we're doing into Katrina, pre-war intelligence, torture, etc. And I would find it much more acceptable from Iraq. Not the torture, a crooked investigation.
