Climate Shift Tied To 150,000 Fatalities
Earth's warming climate is estimated to contribute to more than 150,000 deaths and 5 million illnesses each year, according to the World Health Organization, a toll that could double by 2030.

The data, being published today in the journal Nature, indicate that climate change is driving up rates of malaria, malnutrition and diarrhea throughout the world.

Health and climate scientists at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, who conducted one of the most comprehensive efforts yet to measure the impact of global warming on health, said the WHO data also show that rising temperatures disproportionately affect poor countries that have done little to create the problem. They reached their conclusions after entering data on climate-sensitive diseases into mapping software.

"Those most vulnerable to climate change are not the ones responsible for causing it," said the study's lead author, Jonathan Patz, a professor at the university's Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and its department of population health sciences. "Our energy-consumptive lifestyles are having lethal impacts on other people around the world, especially the poor."

6. Nader campaigned on the premise that there was little difference...

...between the two candidates running. Well, one of those differences was that Gore definately believed in global warming, while Bush* said that the verdict was still out. And now we have eight years of Bush* which hinged on a decision that he made to lie about the magnitude of this difference.

8. It's not gratuitious.
People who advocate voting for third parties keep pushing this disingenuous line about there being little difference. We need to point out the differences as they appear to prevent a recurrence. I think it's a shirking of responsibility for any third-party advocate to try to blanketly stifle this debate.

11. I agree that those that vote for third parties should study France 2002
However we need to realize that nothing would have changed except less fraud in FL and OH. Barring that, little else makes much difference.

9. I have calculated
that we are losing aprox. 725 men and women per year in Iraq at the current rate, so we would have to stay for 206 years in Iraq to equal one year of the deaths caused by Global Warming worldwide. Of course Global Warming is accelerating and I imagine the rate of death caused by it will also accelerate. I suppose this is what Al Gore is talking about when he says that Global Warming is the biggest threat to our national/global security.
