BAGHDAD — Why she strapped explosives to her body and tried to blow up a wedding party may forever remain a mystery.
But the would-be bomber's cousin thinks he knows what motivated Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi.
"Before the war, Sajida was a housewife, a farmer, a religious woman and she was happy with her life," said the cousin, Hussein al-Dulaimi, 45.
After the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, her three brothers joined the insurgency. Coalition forces, battling determined insurgents in violent Anbar province, raided the family's home, al-Dulaimi said.
....
"After the U.S. invasion in 2003, the American forces started to raid the cities and houses of Anbar province in an unacceptable way, detaining innocent people with no charges," al-Dulaimi said. "We as people of (Anbar's capital of) Ramadi believe in revenge, so if somebody kills a member of our tribe, the tribe will seek revenge. That was the reason behind establishing the military resistance."
