Rumsfeld rejects growing withdrawal calls
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051118/ts_nm/security_iraq_usa_dc_2

<snip>

Rumsfeld said as Iraqi forces took more control of their own security, it would enable U.S. forces to be diverted to other assignments within Iraq.

"What you'll see over the period ahead is that the Iraqi security forces will be handed over responsibility for pieces of real estate, for certain types of missions and assignments," Rumsfeld told reporters after talks with Australian ministers.

"As that happens, the people who were engaged in those activities, they will in many cases assume other assignments and responsibilities, in many cases assisting help to train some additional Irai security forces," said Rumsfeld.

<snip>

"The situation in Iraqi has been improving," Rumsfeld said, adding that there were likely to be further "ugly" incidents.

2. Remember when?

Richard Clark

After the president returned to the White House on Sept. 11, he and his top advisers, including Clarke, began holding meetings about how to respond and retaliate. As Clarke writes in his book, he expected the administration to focus its military response on Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda. He says he was surprised that the talk quickly turned to Iraq.

"Rumsfeld was saying that we needed to bomb Iraq," Clarke said to Stahl. "And we all said ... no, no. Al-Qaeda is in Afghanistan. We need to bomb Afghanistan. And Rumsfeld said there aren't any good targets in Afghanistan. And there are lots of good targets in Iraq. I said, 'Well, there are lots of good targets in lots of places, but Iraq had nothing to do with it.

"Initially, I thought when he said, 'There aren't enough targets in-- in Afghanistan,' I thought he was joking.

"I think they wanted to believe that there was a connection, but the CIA was sitting there, the FBI was sitting there, I was sitting there saying we've looked at this issue for years. For years we've looked and there's just no connection."

Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Grahib but the prisoner was purposefully not listed at that location, also an illegal act. Rumsfeld also admitted to signing orders for tougher interogation methods which violated the Geneva Conventions.

Rumfailed has commited at least three violations of the Geneva Convention thereby also violations of The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that Rumsfailed and Tenet have not been charged speaks volumes. If Congress wishes to garner any respect they should move forward with Rep. Rangle's Impeachment Declaration of Rumsfailed and also prosecute Ex. CIA Tenet.

7. It is tough to revisit..
This is when Congress should have stood up, as Americans, Republican and Democrat alike..

They abdicated their responsibility.

Every time Dumbsfeld opens his mouth, he makes himself sound dumber. Sadly, this era will be the "downfall of America" chapter in future history books.

I wonder how much Rumsfeld pays HIS suicide bombers to keep this mess brewing? Think he pays as much, or more, than Saddam allegedly did?

11. Negroponte can answer that question.....the "Death Squad Master"
is one of the sneakiest & nasty men still living.

Rumsfeld launched a spirited defense of the U.S. role in Iraq on Friday, saying Iraq had made enormous progress since Saddam Hussein was driven from power, with elections for a new government due in December after Iraqis drafted and endorsed a new constitution.

"The situation in Iraqi has been improving," Rumsfeld said, adding that there were likely to be further "ugly" incidents.

"They have gone from a country with a repressive dictator who has put hundreds of thousands of human beings in mass graves over decades, a repressive dictatorship that was giving $25,000 rewards to families of suicide bombers."

10. Mr. Rumsfeld - Could you please provide the facts on which you base
your assertion that the "situation in Iraq has been improving"?

Please provide actual substantiated facts with complete breakdowns of why they are considered "improvements."

Well I guess that depends on what your definition of improve is? Gee, we've only had one mosque attacked and two car bombs outside a hotel in Baghdad this morning, see things are improving.

15. I can't believe this statement -
"they will be handed over responsibility for pieces of real estate". Can you believe that? IT'S THEIR COUNTRY. Iraq is their home. And we're handing them certain types of missions and assignments?

One more comment: Rumsfeld, in his deluded dreamland, seems to think Iraqi forces will take control of their own security.

Here's where RumsFailed is delusional. They already know that US-trained Iraqis have a very paper-thin loyalty to the occupier. Iraqis have been known to leak secrets to the insurgents, and they are unwilling to turn and shoot their own people. Turnover is very high.

18. My plan for a pullout:

We take up a collection and buy airline tickets to bring the troops home. And another collection to send the neocons over to Iraq.

I think $10 per american would do it, that's 3 billion. Hell for that we could charter wide bodies and bring them back by the division.

Who will contribute?

27. Ya know what?
That makes sense.

IF THERE WERE SOME MILESTONES AND A TIMELINE TO GO WITH IT.

The American people do not want to be there, and do not want to lose another soldier. I would rather have an estimated timeline and miss it by a couple of weeks than none at all.

BTW I don't believe in a "cut and run", but rather like Rep. Murtha suggested a deliberate withdrawl.
