Democratic Senate hopeful poised to assail Hutchison
Radnofsky charges incumbent with fluffiness; senator's campaign calls jab immature.
By W. Gardner Selby
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Monday, November 21, 2005
Barbara Ann Radnofsky of Houston, campaigning with the slogan "tough name, smart dame," says she is gaining ground on GOP U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison thanks to voters' growing weariness of Republican leadership.

Radnofsky, 49, intends to formalize her first run for public office with the Texas Democratic Party in Austin on Dec. 5 after almost 300 campaign stops over two years.

Radnofsky is a mediation lawyer for the Vinson & Elkins firm, which employs Hutchison's husband, Ray, in Dallas. She has not met him but cannot wait to debate his wife, the state's senior senator.

Hutchison "has refused to defend her record," Radnofsky said. "She's ready to run a race by traveling in a Cadillac appearing to honor her past as a University of Texas cheerleader," a reference to Hutchison recently joining an Austin parade featuring former Longhorn cheerleaders. "She's running the fluffiest race you can imagine."

Hutchison campaign adviser Bryan Eppstein called the jab "an immature statement by an immature candidate. We will debate on facts and the record, not on falsehoods."

1. Good. Fucking. Luck.
Texas would go blue in presidential races before it boots out Kay Bailey.

3. dude... that's like asking by what percentage did John Kerry win Texas.
yeah, she's liked. Liked enough that a majority of them would probably vote for her for President, even though she's, you know, a girl.

16. That's irrelevant when you have electronic machines and know the people
who count the votes. :)

5. She will beat KBH
Why don't you come out and help us? Be good to get away from your 42 inch TV, perhaps you will get a better sense of what is taking place here.

We don't need naysayers, but volunteers are a different matter.

I'd vote for anyone other than Hutchinson...I have to agree though that she's not likely to get beat!

9. No she won't
KBH is ten foot tall and bullet proof in TX. Heck the only reason she is not running for governor is the TX rethug party talked her out of it. She could have easily beaten Governor Good Hair.

With the resources we have we need to put them in fights we stand a chance of winning. We don't have the kyptonite to take her out with.

11. You overestimate Senator Perjury Technicality
Her polls numbers are sliding right along with all the rest of the Pukes. She has a pathetic record of supporting veterans, despite serving on the Senate cpmmittee.

Texas is on the verge of turning purple. Watch.

Kay is quite vulnerable. Yeah, it'll take a lot of work and quite a bit of money, but it's by no means undoable.

21. Besides.
Just because Michael Jordan seems invincible doesn't mean you don't guard him. Same thing goes here. If the "tough name, smart dame" can make KBH work for re-election instead of campaigning for someone else, more power to her, I say.

20. What "resources" are you talking about?
National Democratic Party funds have not gone to any Texas Democrat in a long time.

Should I not go to the trouble of voting against KBH? This is certainly a difficult fight--but KBH is not Superwoman.

13. Agree Bluestateguy
I think there are something like 29 statewide elected offices in Texas, and all 29 are held by Republicans currently. Hutchison is usually the ticket leader when she runs, so if any Republican anywhere in America wins any race for the senate, it will be Hutchison.

The fact that a person who has never run for office before is the only one running against her is not because she is seen as beatable.

17. I think there is a good chance of that too. Kay is getting
weaker by the day. I've meet Barbara Ann Radnofsky and I think she may unpset Hutchinson.

She's certainly not insipid as Hutchinson.

10. Hutchison surely won't be beaten in Texas
Without a credible opponent and some funding. Wouldn't it be nice, though, if the GOP national party actually had to spend money securing Hutchison's re-election instead of taking money from her campaign in pass-throughs to fund other less-electable candidates?

Best of luck, Texas Democrats. It isn't impossible, and every buck you make Hutchison spend on herself is one more buck that won't be available in Florida or Michigan or Pennsylvania.

12. Rid yourself of this defeatism
BAR is more than credible and will have plenty of funds.

It's uphill -- as it is for all Texas Democrats (and Southern Democrats, and Midwestern Democrats, and ...)

25. It would be nice if she won, but the real point is....
to FIGHT with good candidates in every election. By challenging everywhere we will spread thin the Repug war chest. Two years ago could you have imagined the Repugs having to spend significant cash to keep KBH (any relation to KBR?) in office?

Tag her and bag her!

The tag? She is a -

BUSH REPUBLICAN

He isn't even poplular in Texas anymore.
