Islamists triple seats in Egyptian parliament
The opposition Muslim Brotherhood has tripled its strength in parliament halfway into Egyptian elections, winning 13 seats in the second stage despite a crackdown by the authorities, results showed today.

Police arrested about 470 activists before and during voting yesterday.

.......

The Brotherhood, banned since 1954 but whose candidates are standing as independents, had more than doubled its strength in parliament in the first stage of voting, making the most of unprecedented leeway from the government.

The group has now won 47 seats, compared with 15 in the outgoing parliament, showing the weight of political Islam as Egypt's strongest opposition force.

5. sorry to say this but the current government isn't all that great either
so what the hell are the voters of Egypt supposed to do? Keep voting for the Western backed government even though it doesn't seem to improve their lot in life?
