Voters unimpressed with Schwarzenegger

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Ninety-two percent of California's registered voters know Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger but 54 percent rate him unfavorably, a new Field Poll finds.

Other actors mentioned as possible 2006 gubernatorial candidates also have gotten the thumbs-down from voters, who gave the man famous for "I'll be back" a favorable rating of just 38 percent.

Democrat Rob Reiner received a 41 percent negative rating while Warren Beatty was rated unfavorably by 48 percent of the 774 voters surveyed by telephone in late October.

Beatty flopped among Democratic, Republican and non-partisan voters.

2. A recall campaign is in the works, I have signed

up to work on it.

I'll post the info as soon as possible.

The goal is to get enough signatures to help him understand that his muscles don't flex no more.

11. Here is the link and it does not call for a special recall election
I love goose and gander!

Hope this link answers any questions that you may have.

The way that I see it is that we can sit twirling our thumbs and playing nice guy or keep the pressure on Arnold.

Just the idea of keeping his name and deeds in the News is good for this goose.

32. Here is the info
I just received this email regarding any questions people may have, thanks for asking....

"Ask them to write volunteer@savecalnow.com to volunteer and have them keep updated by reading the UPDATE column at the website. Besure to do that because this is where I update every other day. The Home page now also contains some vital information in the first paragraph."
I just want to keep the pressure on Arnold.

The Democrats are finally waking up and that is such a good thig.

They are not allowing the Bush Bullie's to run the show.

9. Why can't you just wait a year?
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 05:48 PM by Tiggeroshii
There's no need to waste more and more state money on a campaign that'll kick him out in a little less than a year anyway! Come on now, we don't need this... It'll completely turn this direct democracy into a joke(if it isn't already).

One year he'll be out. Why not wait?

10. The Democratic Process already is a joke in California and
in the WH.

I always like to keep an open mind about issues such as this one.

I always wait until I see the information before calling someone crazy.

I know that so many people were afraid to speak out against Bush and the war because the Republicans would think that we were stupid and that it would ruin our chances in the election in 2004.

And here we are, almost 2000 dead soldiers later. We now have Congressmen with the guts to understand that the political process is all about pushing for what you believe in.

People said that Cindy was crazy for camping out in Crawford too.

5. Two countries in a car race, Russia and the USA
The USA won the race but Russian newspapers ran the story as Russia comes in second while USA comes in next to last.... When all you give is negative numbers it leaves a false impression. Beatty did not flop if more than half approve of him.

Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 04:01 PM by yellowcanine
recall business and get rid of Arnold the old fashioned way - vote him out in 2006. Then they should tighten up the recall law and make it much tougher to recall someone - maybe require a higher percent of registered voters to sign a petition and not allow any paid petition gatherers. I also think California needs to get out of the referendum business - it is wrecking their political system.

13. WP: Reiner, Beatty Lag in California Poll
Reiner, Beatty Lag in California Poll
The Associated Press
Tuesday, November 22, 2005

SACRAMENTO -- Hollywood director Rob Reiner and actor Warren Beatty are well-known to California voters if either decides to run for governor next year, but a poll shows they aren't particularly well-liked.

A Field Poll released Tuesday rates the name recognition and images of announced and possible candidates for seven statewide offices next year....

***

About two-thirds of the registered voters surveyed said they already had opinions about Reiner and Beatty, but most viewed the two men unfavorably.

In Reiner's case, 41 percent of voters viewed him in an unfavorable light, compared to 25 percent who liked him. About 48 percent of voters viewed Beatty unfavorably, compared to 16 percent who saw him in a positive light....(B)oth had higher name recognition than the two announced Democratic candidates for governor. Just 35 percent of voters said they had an opinion about state Treasurer Phil Angelides, while 29 percent said that about state Controller Steve Westly....The poll found that 92 percent of registered voters had an opinion about (Schwarzenegger), with 74 percent of fellow Republicans holding a favorable view.

But the governor has lost the bipartisan appeal that made him so popular during his first year in office, according to the poll. Only 38 percent of all registered voters viewed him favorably, while 80 percent of Democrats and 58 percent of independents view him negatively....

15. maybe they're finally getting sick of actors
who are elected on name recognition and then get into office and realize they don't know their thumbs from their bums and have to rely on advisors for everything and we all know who's ready to supply them with all the experts and advisors they'll ever need.

Maybe they've decided that dull people with no name recognition but who have been in the political pipeline from school board through state lege might have a bigger clue about what's been going on and what really needs to be done about it.

22. I Wish They Would Get Over It
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 09:35 PM by Paranoid Pessimist
Actors are good at campaigning, at playing the role of politician in the media, but their track record for actually governing is awful. Schvartenegro is a perfect example. Not only did a lot of my fellow Californian believe that he would go in there like an action movie hero and throw politicians around, "kick butt," and somehow make everything right ... it now appears that Arnold himself believed that.

Warren Beatty floated run-for-president trial balloons after his portrayal of a politician in Bullworth attracted notice. He dropped it once he began to get a glimmer that it might take more than speeches and public appearances.

Unfortunately, what the progressives need is a politician with the style and charisma of a celebrity but with the intellectual chops to get things done, and I don't see anyone currently in public life who's like that.

Please, not another Hollywood actor. Fame does not equate to qualified.

What the fuck is wrong with California that they cannot nominate an ordinary person?

Hollywood.... BAH!!!

23. Au contraire ... California has elected lots the highly ordinary
Pete Wilson ("Peevish Pete") was certainly ordinary, as was George Deukmejian, or even the aptly named Gray Davis. Californians seem to alternate between flashy candidates and boring ones. Bill Maher once said that only California could elect both Ronald Reagan and Jerry Brown.

A lot of us here in California are ordinary people trying to think ourselves into some sort of celebrity status.

26. If you find one ordinary or normal person anywhere
The person is misrepresenting him or herself. There is no "norm" - every one is an exception to a rule.

Californians as much as Michigan folk.

34. because this is California, and not any other state
I am a native-born Californian. California is not just a state, but a state of mind. There are people who move here who will never be "Californians" because they don't "get it." It isn't so much exceptionalism ("we are the greatest") as an eccentric way ("we are the wierdest") of thinking and being. As the joke goes, you tip the country on its side and all the fruits and nuts roll down to California. I like it that way. It is why my great-grandpa brought the family here in 1908 from Kansas- it is as far away from the Midwest as you can get without falling into the ocean. So we are crazy here, but we have a lot of fun anyway.
