Fox News won't show ad opposing Alito

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON -- Fox News is refusing to air an ad critical of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, citing its lawyers' contention that the spot is factually incorrect.

A spokesman for the groups sponsoring the ad said the network's decision reflects the political right's effort to shield President Bush's choice for the high court.

The ad says that as an appellate court judge, Alito has "ruled to make it easier for corporations to discriminate ... even voted to approve strip search of a 10-year-old girl." Referring to a document Alito wrote in 1985 while seeking a job in the Reagan administration, it quotes him as saying that "the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."

The groups backing the ad include the Alliance for Justice, the Leadership Conference on Civil rights, People for The American Way and abortion rights organizations.

3. Oh, really?
I wasn't aware that Fox New had adopted "Factually Correct" as a standard. It is good to hear they will now adhere to such a high standard. :sarcasm:

33. Didn't FAUX win a LAWSUIT to be able to LIE to its own viewers?
I clearly recall something of the kind happening a couple years back.

8. Fairly Unbalanced.
Cowards...hiding behind an unnamed lawyer's opinion. I assume this same lawyer had no problems with the lies they aired by the Swift Boaters. When we, the people, get our government back, I hope one of the 1st acts is to address the propaganda RW broadcasters like Fox are allowed to spew.

10. Kick and Nom, this is the perfect slam dunk to use against a Reich winger
when they speak of the so called liberal media. A Reich wingers main talking point is that it's the liberal medias fault. This article here trumps that argument hands down.

12. STOP, all, and THINK. This is great news.
Here you have a station doing precisely the opposite of what they preach. What an opportunity to rub it in their noses each and every time they try to pull a fast one, be it Hume, Smith, O'Reilly or Hannity. If they dare ask a pointed, warped question of one of our reps again, we now have ammo to show just how untrustworthy their entire station is. From their editorial board down to their grimiest, slut-lipsticked, brainless, reporterette raising Clinton's penis as a defense to their Iraqi screw-up.

No, folks, you are making a serious mistake. Complaining about Fox changes nothing and only emboldens them. TO the contrary, we should celebrate their hypocrisy with joy and glee. Anyone who quotes them as a source (cough, cough) can then receive the same treatment.

These little neocons hate many things, but mostly, they really hate not being taken seriously. It damages them to the core. It makes it painfully obvious that their logic is warped, their universe bent, their arguments curved and their understanding negligible.

is that not the hallmark of faux news? They are a satellite circling bizarro world. Tell the truth about a conservative and it will not be shared with their audience.

21. This has got to be a JOKE!
FAUX NEWS refuses "... citing its lawyers' contention that the spot is factually incorrect!"

If they're 'lawyers' are worried about that network airing things that are 'factually incorrect', there wouldn't be a show left on the air.

22. Who cares if Fox doesn't run the ad.
Fox has no reason to run an ad opposing someone they support strongly.

Quit treating Fox like an entity of journalism. They aren't one, and they aren't bound by the rules of one.

27. You know, I don't think anyone pretends anymore that
Fox is "fair and balanced." They quit that charade a long time ago; now they are openly right-wing (not that they weren't before, it's just that they don't even make an attempt to lie about it.)

Fuck 'em anyway.

suing Franken, this is generating more attention that if the ad had run. I don't watch much TV. I didn't even know about the ad. I do now. HA HA HA. This is excellent.
