Carter criticizes Bush administration:Ex-president says policy for war wro
Jimmy Carter is my hero and he's the energizer bunny! He was also in SLC, Utah saying the same things about the Bush Admin. Go Jimmy!!! And THANK YOU!

Nov. 23, 2005
Las Vegas--
President Carter called the Bush administration's criticism of Congressman John Murtha "a disgrace" and said Tuesday that the White House is to the thesis of his best-selling book.

"Most of the ones who are criticizing him, they've never had any involvement in the military, never had their children in the military, and they sit back in Washington and criticize people ... who have offered their lives if necessary to protect this nation's basic moral values," Carter told reporters Tuesday before he signed copies of "Our Endangered Values" at Borders Book Shop & Cafe.

"And that's one reason I wrote this book because I see such a sharp separation by this administration from ancient commitments to basic values that shape our commitments."

Carter said Murtha, D-Pa., who last week called for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, is "intimately" familiar with officers and troops in Iraq and has a keen understanding of the war. Murtha is a "tough, competent, knowledgeable, courageous, dedicated patriot," Carter said.

Like Murtha, Carter is a "tough, competent, knowledgeable, courageous, dedicated patriot."

5. Correction: Murtha did NOT call for the "immediate withdrawal"
of troops. (This is a recording...) It should be done when it is stategically indicated, according to Murtha. "Get a plan" is the message.

11. Didn't he suggest to immediately begin the withdrawal process?
I thought he said this should begin immediately and occur as soon as practicable with a rapid response group on the horizon, such as Quatar or Kuwait. He said every day American troops remain in Iraq the more they incite the people. 80% of Iraqis want the occupation forces out immediately.....

7. The neoconsters outright reject all of our basic values 'cause,...
,...they are neo-imperialists who believe manipulating and exploiting human resources (e.g. OUR PEOPLE) is perfectly okay regardless of the impact upon the health of democracy.

Carter was/is/always will be a noble and moral leader. The barabaric RW HATES people like that,...always have and always will. So sad that we have yet to mature enough to protect those who are pure representatives of our values and ideals from the tyrannical predators who will do anything to destroy them.

*sigh*

9. When oil skyrocketed and Carter instituted a very effective plan
Edited on Thu Nov-24-05 10:17 AM by MrTriumph
The MSM has been full of beans about Pres. Carter for years.

They say Carter lost Iran. Baloney, the shah did.

As a result they say oil prices skyrocketed. Actually prices started up before the revolution for reasons neither he, nor others could counter. (For good or ill, Nixon lost the "Seven Sisters", Carter didn't).

The MSM says Carter's response was ineffective. Baloney, his energy program slashed demand. FWIW, Reagan was the beneficiary of Carter's programs.

Looking back Carter did a fine job keeping the US economy from imploding from high oil prices and he gave the US Army time to rebuild from Viet Nam. Very impressive by any standard.

10. new , cheap oil discoveries in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea
are what made Reagan and Thatcher look right. (and Carter look "wrong")

It wasn't Reaganomics or the mass privitzation of Britain or the resolution of the Iran hostage crisis, or the instigation of the Iran/Iraq War. (but that helped, thank you Saddam from Ronnie)

The infusion of cheap petroleum what what kick started the US economy, temporarily took supply dependency off of OPEC and made Carter's consumption reduction plans and efficiency targets seem unneccessary and misguided. Imagine if CAFE standards had continued to climb at the same rate as under Carter's watch?

It always comes back to oil
