The Apprentice now bids for Congress
The Apprentice now bids for Congress
Aziz Haniffa in Washington, DC | November 25, 2005 17:04 IST

Raj Peter Bhakta, an alumnus of the popular Donald Trump television show The Apprentice, will run for US Congress from Pennsylvania's 13th District on a Republican ticket, and attempt to unseat freshman incumbent Allyson Schwartz, a Democrat.

Bhakta, who gained a fan following for his amusing antics and witty repartee, while gaining a rep as the quintessential ladies-man last fall on the NBC show, announced November 16 the formation of an exploratory committee to seek the Republican nomination for the state's 13th District.

'My optimism that our finest hour is yet to come is powerfully shaped by my experience as the son of immigrants — a first generation American, I am living the American dream. I have seen with my own eyes the greatness of this country, and perhaps above all, I want to run to keep the American dream alive — whether you are a first or seventh generation American,' he said, while announcing his intention.

Though he is contesting as a Republican, Bhakta said he was 'deeply concerned with the direction of the federal government on several fronts: on wasteful pork barrel spending; on the failure of effective reform on key issues like the environment, and a government drunk on its own power.'

3. Someone better teach that boy
to dress. Good lord.

Not to worry, the Republican party will disabuse him of all his silly concerns.

5. Does it sound like he chose his party affiliation about a week ago?
Everything mentioned above makes me think he shouldn't run as a Republican.

I guess this is the new "formula" politics. Do well on some reality television show, then run for office, predicated on the notion that you're a natural born winner.

Here's hoping the Democrat tears him limb from limb in the campaign. His win would set a pathetic new precedent.

8. Nah. I had the "joy" of watching that season. We had him pegged.

A self-important little twerp with a tendency to play dress-up (he carried a cane, fer crissakes!) and stalker-esque behavior toward Trump's receptionist. We screamed, "Republican!" whenever he came on screen.

Now Omarosa was the one that floored us.

12. Didn't he say he was Republican one night?
I could've sworn he did. Maybe he just went on and on about money or something, and that's where I got it from.

You know, we hated that guy. I'm sure we weren't the only ones. He amused us at first, but he didn't work well with the others and seemed really fake somehow.

while he was playing tennis. Then he hit on the secretary on his way out of the boardroom after getting fired. He seems to be an arrogant jackass, but aren't they all?

13. Allison Schwartz(D) will get another term. With that said...
I say he's a trojan horse. He calls himself a "Teddy Roosevelt Republican" yet wants uber right wing nut case Bobby Jindal to campaign with him. :wtf: He is NOT a "moderate". He'll just become another Delay/Frist/K-Street lackey if GOD FORBID he's elected.

I'm Indian, and this guy's at least ten shades lighter than me. And even light-skinned Indians still look "Indian." This guy doesn't.

24. I don't know, but he's probably... 1/2? Irish
I went to the wikipedia info link above, and then clicked on the link to his personal website, which is "under redevelopment." There is nothing there but a pompous looking picture of him, along with an obviously self-created "coat of arms" that contains an elephant and a shamrock.
