Lieberman 'encouraged' by Iraq visit

Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Joe Lieberman, fresh from a two-day visit to Iraq over the Thanksgiving holiday, said Monday he was hopeful U.S. forces could begin a "significant" withdrawal by the end of next year or in 2007.

"The country is now in reach of going from Saddam Hussein to self-government and, I'd add, self-protection," the Connecticut Democrat said in a conference call with reporters. "That would be a remarkable transformation ... I saw real progress there."

...

"If Iraqi forces continue to gain the confidence the American military sees there now ... We will be able to draw down our forces," he said.

....

"About two-thirds of the country is in really pretty good shape," he said, noting most attacks are in the so-called "Sunni Triangle" region. "Overall, I came back encouraged."

Hey, idiot Joe:

Two thirds of the country is a fucking desert and no one lives there, ya PNACing scumbag you!!!

Oh, and one other little statistic he forgot to mention? Forty Five percent of Iraqis think its dandy to target and kill U.S. troops and 85% want the troops out RIGHT NOW!!!!

What a delusional shit brain this idiot is. I mean, how can he even walk and chew gum at the same time.

The Iraqi troops will NEVER fight to protect a puppet government we created through these faux elections. It ain't ever ever ever ever gonna happen...(see: Viet Nam)

11. So many visits, so many optimistic predictions, yet none the better
Lie-bermann should be tired of the optimistic summaries of his visits to Iraq by now. Just like *, he has lost credibility on the Iraq issue and his ever present taste for wars. It is about time he took his DLC opinionated nonsense and joined the rethuglican party.

10. At first I thought that Dems like Joementum
lacked nte balls to stand up to * and the rpeubs, but after reading something like this and knowing that nobody in America except repubs and this asshole supports this clusterfuck anymore I have to say he has no brains either. Plus I hate his friggin whiny nasal voice. He's one step up on the evolutionary ladder from Zell Miller and not a real big step either.

18. Hm, Holy Joe must be losing his touch...
I used to love to jump on all the threads about Joe Lieberman about 2 years ago. They were a mile long, and the posts were I think the funniest I've ever read.

Whew, talk about sarcasm. This is pretty mild, in comparison.

Joe, you need to get out more.

This guy just don't get it. Our death count is going up. We are going broke and he thinks 2007? We have lost enough! We haven't rebuilt after Katrina we make major cuts and giving away tax cuts. Lieberman get a clue.

24. Joe should visit an Iraqi morgue
and see if he's still "encouraged".

Maybe he could ride around with one of the US funded, trained, and armed Shi'ite security force death squads as they go around dumping the corpses of their tortured victims in the black of night. Maybe that would have him "brimming with optimism"?

Hey Joe! Would ya be "encouraged" if your hometown was like Fallujah????

that Joe's state of Connecticut has sub bases and lots of defense contracts, and Joe get them lots and lots of pork. I'm sure this has a lot to do with his rosy view on all things military!:sarcasm:

28. Good grief! Please don't encourage the man!!! Why is he giving Bush
pointers for his speech anyway?

"It's time for some details," said Lieberman. "He's gotta describe some of the progress that I saw there. It's gotta be realistic."

And what progress was that Joe?

Lieberman has visited Iraq four times in 17 months. He said there are signs life is returning to normal, including a profusion of cell phones and satellite TV dishes on rooftops.

Oh yeah, there's progress for ya. Cell phones (since most of the land lines are still down) and TV dishes, which I believe Saddam had banned. Weren't these 2 things the same examples Bushco was touting shortly after he declared Mission Accomplished? I definitely remember the satellite TV dishes being covered ad-nauseum.

I'm thinking the Iraqis would be far more impressed with water, electricity, infrastructure, and not getting blown up on a daily basis.
