Judge Drops DeLay Associate From Lawsuit

Wednesday November 30, 2005 5:01 AM

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A federal judge has dropped an associate and co-defendant of former House majority leader Tom DeLay from a campaign finance lawsuit.

Judge Lee Yeakel removed Republican fundraiser John Colyandro from a lawsuit filed by Kirk Watson, a former candidate for Texas attorney general who sued Colyandro and the Law Enforcement Alliance of America last year, claiming that corporate-financed advertising illegally influenced the 2002 elections.

The Virginia-based group, which supports gun rights and police, remains a defendant in the case.

The law enforcement alliance spent an estimated $1.5 million on a TV commercial aired in the final days of the 2002 campaign that attacked Watson as a personal injury trial lawyer who ``made millions suing doctors, hospitals and small businesses.''

1. Free speech vs. Smear speech =
The more money involved = the greater the smear. But the facts must out.

"In an unrelated criminal case, Colyandro is charged with conspiracy and money laundering, along with DeLay.

Those allegations stem from an alleged scheme to launder $190,000 in restricted corporate money from Delay's committee through the national GOP party and back to seven candidates for the Texas Legislature. "

4. There are so many lawsuits it's hard to keep track

I don't think I even knew about this one. Oh well, they are all so tied up in this mess it's like watching dominoes fall. I love it.

I was listening to On Point last night and they were talking about the fact that Scanlon says he's gonna sing like a canary. Every guest they had on, regardless of affiliation, pretty much said the same thing - these guys are f.u.c.k.e.d. I can't wait to see the slimy bastards go down one-by-one.

5. Yeah, Scanlon's ass is in a genuine sling.
He's pled guilty to what I assume is a felony and he has to return roughly $20 million to the tribes he ripped off.

That's the feds playing nice with him. If they get a whiff of him holding back, I presume he gets a stay at Club Fed, and there may be fines as well.

I hope we get to find out the dates and subjects of discussion that Jack Abramoff had with the President. That should be a real barn burner.

6. I'm waiting to hear what he has to say about Frist
He and Abramoff funneled money to the Senatorial Election Committee that Bill Frist was the head of in the 2002 election cycle.
