Gunmen kill nine people in Iraq minibus attack...

Wed Nov 30, 2005 1:50 AM ET

BAQUBA, Iraq (Reuters) - Gunmen opened fire on a minibus north of Baghdad on Wednesday, killing nine people and wounding two, police said.

A police official said 10 masked gunmen carried out the attack near the town of Baquba, some 65 km (40 miles) from the Iraqi capital.

Iraqi and U.S. officials expect a surge in guerrilla violence in the run-up to national elections on December 15 when Iraqis will vote for their first full-term government since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Sunni Arab guerrillas are waging a campaign of suicide bombings, shootings and assassinations in a bid to topple the present Shi'ite- and Kurd-dominated government, which is backed by Washington.

3. 1Yes 2Yes and 3Yes...
  1. This another Vietnam (only this time we overtly began a civil war)
  2. Our best and brightest young souls are dieing in droves now -- we can now only what they might have accomplished.

We are weary because this war was unnecessary. Afghanistan was a no brainer -- we had to go in. If Iraq had attacked us I'd be energized by the war. But facts are facts; we're in Iraq for PNAC reasons.

2. So are these Iraqis against occupation & a puppet government
or terrorists? Rummy was a little weak on defining these terms.
