Americans Want Different Type of President Next Time, Poll Says

Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Three in five Americans want the next U.S. president to be completely different from incumbent George W. Bush, according to a poll by Time magazine.

Bush's policies in Iraq and high gasoline and energy prices had a ``very negative'' effect on his overall job rating for 45 percent of respondents, according to the poll, conducted between Nov. 29 and Dec. 1. The results showed 36 percent would like the next president to have policies similar to those of Bush, compared with 60 percent who want a different type of leader.

The findings indicate Bush is failing to reverse flagging approval ratings after laying out his strategy for Iraq in a Nov. 30 speech. The poll showed 41 percent approve of the job Bush is doing while 53 percent disapprove, little changed from results in September after Hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. Gulf Coast. Of those who disapprove, 76 percent said they were unlikely to change their opinion of Bush.

Bush said in the Nov. 30 speech that he would set no timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. Training and equipping Iraqi forces to take over their country's security is crucial to U.S. success in the conflict and will strike a blow against terrorism, Bush said in the speech at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

1. An honest woman or man would be a good start.
And someone with a brain.

2. Crazy thing is, this is 1 year in term two.
If 3/5 want some one completely different that * now, what will it be like in 3 years?

3. "What will it be like in 3 years?"
The electronic voting machines will report that President Cheney has been re-elected in a landslide.

24. Three years from now it probably won't matter. All the bad
guys will have skipped the country and will be living in their mansions somewhere that doesn't extradite. We'll be sitting in the rubble, sucking our thumbs and wondering what the hell happened.

21. I would prefer someone who wasn't born with a silver spoon
in their mouth. Someone who knows what it takes to survive hard times and keeps fighting for the littleguy.

Someone who "has" compassion, not just mouths the words and then does the opposite.

Someone who has intelligence and thinks before they speak.

Someone who has courage and is not afraid to take critism.

Someone who takes the advice from those who are knowledgable and experts in their particular fields.

Someone who has the courage to admit they made a mistake and then takes the proper steps to try and repair the damage.

In otherwards, anyone except Bushit.

29. I would love to see a poll on what people think the odds of that happening
are.

Sure wish we would see a good shakeup happen. A real strong showing by any third party, even one winning it would be the best scenario I could think of.

I still like Kerry and Edwards but I am afraid we won't get the changes needed in Washington and with foreign policy from either the Dem's or Repug's.

22. We need someone or some group to appeal Bush v. Gore...
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 09:59 AM by stlsaxman
the way i see it any American citizen who claims immeasurable harm has been done to them as a result of this decision has the right to an appeal, eh?

The end result being a Gore Administration installed.

12. He's no different than he was before he got re-elected
... or elected for the first time, depending on how you look at it since he didn't actually win in 2000.

The 36% who would like our next president to have policies similar to Bush's would probably vote for anyone who said they wanted to ban abortion, knock down the wall between church and state, and amend the constitution with a ban on gay marriage.

As far as the people who now disapprove but voted for him... why not read a newspaper once in a while instead of voting from gut instinct. He's no different now than he was before the last election. The only difference is news media are finally starting to actually do some reporting on all this. I think Katrina opened a lot of people's eyes as well as the price of gas.

14. I'm just looking for one who
can complete a coherent sentence without being wired and who doesn't start unnecessary wars. Also, it would be nice to have someone sitting in the White House who reads, takes others' opinions into consideration, and commands respect instead of scorn and derision. I'm tired of people thinking less of this country because its been hijacked by the idiot fringe.

20. Reminds me of a joke ...
Q) How do you lose a war to a country with no real government or military?

A) Put George W. Bush in charge.

We need to be talking more about how Bush has not won this war. He needs to be identified as a military failure.

25. You mean, like someone who actually knows what they are doing???
Holy flying jesus through a hoola hoop!!!!

They don't want joe asshole sixpack* anymore????

what is wrong with these people? I mean hell they wanted an average asshole* like themselves, whom they can have a beer with and talk bullshit with and now they realize that electing someone* like that is actually a colossal disaster for the country. Well, no fucking duh!!!!

I don't want an average asshole* for prez, I want a genius, a top of the class thinker, not the lowest common denominator* like we are currently stuck with.

And they only realize this now. Now that the damage is done and perhaps done permanently. I would personally like to find every fucking idiot in this country who voted for the colossal idiot* and now have changed their mind and slap them upside the head and tell them, "you fucking idiot, what in gods name where you thinking?".

Makes me scream at the sky in frustrated anger.

colossal racist failure*

for it to gain it's inherent legitimacy again.

I weep for our future.

30. No they don't, read the fine print
41% still believe going to war in Iraq was right and 49% still approve of how Bush is handling the "war on terror". Way too many people are still willing to be bamboozled by "cut taxes and kill terrorists".
