Rep. Harris to donate contributions linked to Cunningham

Associated Press

MIAMI - U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris said she plans to donate to charity $51,000 in contributions linked to disgraced ex-U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham.

Cunningham, a Vietnam War veteran from Southern California, resigned Monday after pleading guilty in federal court to accepting at least $2.4 million in bribes for steering government contracts to two defense contractors.

Since 2002, federal records show, owners and employees of two companies identifiable in Cunningham's indictment - MZM Inc. and ADCS Inc. - have pumped the money into Harris' campaign.

"She doesn't want to be linked with (Cunningham) at all," Harris spokeswoman Morgan Dobbs said Friday. "She thought the best thing to do is give the money to charity."

1. She still benefits from the money
-Unless someone else is choosing the charities. Wherever she sends it, the money could buy her as much goodwill as it would have had the campaign spent it.

3. Cruella knew where the money came from, we shouldn't let them get away
With this after the fact, "oh we've got caught...'um, so lets give the money away to charity"

Thats not the point, she was in receipt of the dirty money and Cruella and all of the other Repukes in receipt of money linked to Cunningham should get carpeted.

The charity will probably be some insane Fundie charity or Randall Terry's crackpot organization.

12. I Believe Talking Points Memo
Was talking about Harris when Josh said in one case, employees of the contractor in question wrote their checks to the campaign of a congressional candidate who was right there in the room while they were signing away.

5. Flip. Flop.
Dec 2, 2005. Harris holding on to Cunningham money
More than a dozen congressional Republicans are giving to charity money they got from former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Calif., who has pleaded guilty in a bribe case. But not Katherine Harris. An aide to the U.S. representative from Florida, who received $1,000 from Cunningham's campaign funds in 2004, says the money was legally raised and had nothing to do with Cunningham's criminal case.

Interesting how it went from $1,000 to $51,000. What's $50,000 here or there?

7. Maybe she has one grand left?
And it's just sorta not being clear that she got 51 grand and is only giving most* of it away?

10. Is she serious????
"Cunningham, R-Calif., himself contributed $1,000 to Harris in October 2004, which the congresswoman has said wouldn't be returned because it was legal.

MZM, a Washington-based company with offices in Miami and Tampa and nearly $200 million in government contracts, gave $50,000 to Harris in the 2004 election cycle, the most of any of her contributors, according to the nonpartisan The Center for Responsive Politics."

The money Cunningham personally gave to Harris WON'T be returned because "it was legal"? Depends on what your definition of "legal" is then I guess Katherine. Perhaps you haven't been paying attention, but Duke Cunningham has admitted to accepting bribes. All the money he had is tainted. Do you think he reached into his wallet and pulled out some "clean" money, making sure not to grab the "dirty" money? Geez, Katherine. Apparently you can convince yourself of ANYTHING.
