Canada headed for another minority government: polls
Canada headed for another minority government: polls

By Robert Melnbardis Sat Dec 3, 9:11 PM ET

MONTREAL (Reuters) - Canada is heading for another minority government,
even though most voters want the winning party to take a majority of
parliamentary seats in next month's national election, according to
polls published on Saturday.

The Liberals under Prime Minister Paul Martin have the support of 33
percent of voters, while the Conservatives, headed by Stephen Harper,
are at 31 percent, according to an Ipsos-Reid survey published in the
National Post.

The left-leaning New Democratic Party is supported by 17 percent of
voters.

A political party generally needs at least 40 percent popular support
to win a majority in Canada's Parliament.

2. I'm curious to whether or not Martin will remain as PM
I know little about Canadian politics but I can't see how he would remain

3. i really feel this election
is the result of a big league miscalculation by stephen harper. and the timing is just downright odd. nobody likes a winter election here. and the funny thing? the FIRST thing he did (harper) after the non-confidence vote was to bring up the gay marriage issue! an issue, i might add, that didn't work for him the LAST time around. in fact, it hurt them, so i'm not sure what the hell he's thinking. really, he's grasping at straws here.

4. How far apart are the New Democrats and the Liberals?
Is there anyway they will join forces?

5. National Post is a very right-wing Canadian source
So, I would take the poll's result of the nearness of the Conservatives to the Liberals with a grain of salt.
