(They should start to call these the BS denial of the week.)

US does not send suspects abroad for torture: Hadley

04/12/2005 17h59

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States does not send terrorist suspects abroad to be tortured and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will address reports of secret CIA prisons in Europe during her upcoming visit there, national security adviser Stephen Hadley said. Rice "is going to be addressing these issues in a comprehensive way," Hadley told Fox News Sunday. "One of the things she will be saying is 'Look, we are all threatened by terror. We need to cooperate in its solution.'

"As part of that cooperation for our part, we comply with US law," he added. "We respect the sovereignty of the countries with which we deal. And we do not move people around the world so that they can be tortured."

Rice leaves Monday for a trip to Berlin, Bucharest, Kiev and Brussels. Her visit comes amid European concern over reports of "black hole" interrogation centers and clandestine CIA flights for terror suspects. The European Union last week sent Washington a request for clarification of the reports of the prisons and the transport flights in Europe.

US officials have refused to confirm or deny the existence of the secret facilities. But they have defended in general terms the country's use of tough tactics in its global war on terror. In an interview with CNN, Hadley said there are certain kinds of operations "one cannot talk about."

1. One gets tired of parsing their statements for lies
But, I suppose this lie hinges on some convoluted definition of the term torture.

13. I see at least one other possibility (well, three really).
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 02:37 PM by daleo
"That cooperation though is characterized by three things: One, we comply with the US Constitution. US laws and US treaty obligations. Secondly, we respect the sovereignty of those countries with whom we cooperate. And three, we do not move people around the world so that they can be tortured."

1 - "we comply with the US Constitution. US laws and US treaty obligations." The constitution doesn't' apply to non-Americans, and we know the interpretation of "treaty obligations" can be stretched to absurd lengths.

2 - "we respect the sovereignty of those countries with whom we cooperate." Which is a cute way of saying they got a wink and a nod, or they didn't bother. Thus the little clause about "countries with whom we cooperate" - if Bushco ignores their sovereignty then they are not a country the cooperate with, pretty well by definition.

3 "we do not move people around the world so that they can be tortured." The out here is that they move people around the world for some other purpose (questioning), and the torture is incidental to that.

10. No, and their are very good Photographs on the internet as proof.
Of course, now they are saying that just because one of our jets, which we will neither confirm or deny is "our" Jet, lands in Afghanistan and then flies directly to an air base in Eastern Europe where their is a former Soviet prison... That doesn't prove that their were any "Ghost Detainees" on board.

And sadly, that's true, but when they make every effort top block efforts to get that information, you can almost be sure, their was a GD on the Jet.

22. Anatomy of a CIA ‘rendition’ gone wrong
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10316560/from/ET/&&CM=EmailThis&CE=1
(edit)
Coats informed the German minister that the CIA had wrongfully imprisoned one of its citizens, Khaled Masri, for five months, and would soon release him, the sources said. There was also a request: that the German government not disclose what it had been told even if Masri went public. The U.S. officials feared exposure of a covert action program designed to capture terrorism suspects abroad and transfer them among countries, and possible legal challenges to the CIA from Masri and others with similar allegations.

Exactly, Mr. Hadley. Like Concentration Camps. Remember them? They were a 'certain kind of operation' that people were not supposed to talk about.

Dis.Gusting.

It is all in the details.

12. They are blatant, deliberate bold-faced liars
Don't forget Rummy's comments from even before the invasion "Sometimes the truth is so precious it must be accompanied by a bodyguard of lies."

Why would anyone pretend to believe them after all the lies that they've told and been caught out on. I hope that all the other countries throw their lies back in their faces.

"We respect the sovereignty of the countries with which we deal. And we do not move people around the world so that they can be tortured."

From another article:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=1964871&mesg_id=1965668

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States acknowledged last year that the Central Intelligence Agency had wrongfully imprisoned a German man for five months, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

Al-Masri, a Lebanese-born German national, says he was seized while on vacation in Europe last year and then brought to a U.S. prison in Afghanistan where he was tortured and interrogated for suspected ties to the Al Qaeda terror group.

---

The Post's sources, who would only speak anonymously, said the United States wanted German officials to keep silent because of fears of exposing a covert U.S. program to capture terror suspects abroad and transfer them to other countries.

The CIA declined to comment, as did the U.S. Embassy in Germany, the German interior ministry and the German Embassy in Washington.

20. Santa's coming to see me in a few weeks... I'm so glad
then not too long later, the Easter Bunny will come see me too. I sure liked it whenever I lost a tooth, and I put it under my pillow and the Tooth Fairy would come take it and leave me a quarter.

We live in such a wonderful world.
