GOP Pushing for Spending and Tax Cuts
Compassionate consevatism at its best.

By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Republican leaders in Congress are hoping to complete a bill to curb the growth of student loans, Medicaid and other benefit programs before Christmas, though they may delay extending tax cuts until next year.

Staff aides and lobbyists are skeptical about the prospects of finishing work in the next few weeks on five-year spending cuts of up to $50 billion.

But failure to deliver would disappoint GOP loyalists eager to see their party burnish its budget-cutting credentials, and would push the contentious issue into January or February, muddying the agenda for 2006.

The House returns for a scheduled two-week session on Tuesday; senators do not come back until next week.

1. Let them start with a huge pay and benefit cut for themselves.
Since most of them are rich anyway, and rake in ill gotten gains from poorly concealed bribes (otherwise known as "campaign contributions" to buy votes), do they really need to be supported by the American taxpayer?

We should bury them in mail, telling them to cut their own drain on the taxpayer first, before they kill more Americans with their stupidity.

11. don't forget their insanely generous pension plan.
Far more than is available to the great bulk of any of their constituents, and of course, at our expense.

12. Let's see here, they just voted for a raise
want to lower taxes and gut our social care to pay for it.... yeah. If an employee recommended that to me, I'd fire his but and threaten to put him up on charges if he ever stepped foot on my property again.

2. As a Democrat, I disagree with the ill-advised Republican plan...
They have spent too much already and have given enough to their wealthy friends. It's time to stop digging the hole.

4. They made Medicare bigger as a payoff to drug companies.
Concern for seniors was not involved. That's why the plan they implemented doesn't actually work (as seniors can attest).

5. My grandmother can't even figure out how to work her TV
much less choose from the 37! different plan options that she can enroll in.

Hopefully when we take back the house in '06 we can simplify the procedure.

7. It's Christmas time...
And the GOP will screw over the "least of our brothers", while further enriching the top 1/10 of 1%. And then they will tell their constituants that there is an assault on "Christmas" and morality from the left....

If there is a hell, these guys are poster boys for it. :grr:

14. rationing Medicaid benefits and raising taxes on private coverage
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 03:16 AM by flaminbats
This Congress doesn't just want to screw the disabled and uninsured, now it wants to screw companies who do the right thing by insuring their workers! Bush plans to raise taxes on employees covered by policies that provide more than $11,500 dollars in family coverage.

Bush argues that this will reduce "any incentive" to buy medicine and drugs by raising taxes on workers who have better coverage. So the more we allow an insurance company to take our money without providing coverage in return, the less we'll be penalized by the IRS..wow even if we can't declare backruptcy because of a medical debt. The more coverage an insurance company provides in return for our premiums, the harder Bush will hit us with this new tax! Never mind that Republicans promised to oppose government rationed healthcare, promote family values, and lower our taxes :puke:

15. Let them eat rice cakes!
and make sure the bill grows with interest and is handed to their children and grandchildren! And convince them that rice cakes in place of any medical care, ability to pay for college through loans, and in place of being able to heat the house at night - is a GOOD thing - what God wants... vote GOP! :eyes:

17. I hope they get their tax cuts. I really do.
The more tax cuts they can heap upon their fabulously wealthy selves, the better it will be to justify a return to the Truman era, when the privateers and dodgers were penalized for their profiteering in time of war. Here, have a taste of things to come:

"In this society, we are conservative about the values and principles which we cherish; but we are forward-looking in protecting those values and principles and in extending their benefits. We have rejected the discredited theory that the fortunes of the Nation should be in the hands of a privileged few. We have abandoned the "trickle-down" concept of national prosperity. Instead, we believe that our economic system should rest on a democratic foundation and that wealth should be created for the benefit of all.

"The recent election shows that the people of the United States are in favor of this kind of society and want to go on improving it."

--Harry Truman, in a State of the Union Address for which he did not deserve to be impeached, 1949 link
