Thieves target Medicare plan. New drug plan invites scams, officials say.
As if the Medicare prescription drug plan wasn't tough enough on seniors, they now are being warned about con artists looking to take advantage of them.

The Medicare Part D benefit provides pharmaceutical discounts to seniors, but the process requires comparisons of dozens of plans. And it's proven confusing and complex for many seniors as well as their families.

On Monday, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said con artists may be waiting to take advantage of that complexity to hoodwink seniors.

Some are posing as insurance agents, or as representatives of government agencies to get seniors to hand over their personal information, he said. Some are pushing unnecessary coverage to get money.

3. Correction:
the "new drug plan" is the scam. The others are only petty thieves. The real "con artists" are already in power. And, yes, they are posing as representatives of the people's government.

4. Drop dead plan
There is no way that people can live with this stupid plan, so they will die by the thousands. Everyone now on medicare or who will be in the next 5 years should really take a concerned look at this really political, and ignorant plan. If you have 50K you aren't eligible, but if you haven't got close to that, you can't afford the plan!
This administration has just pulled off the "greatest boondoggle" of the year just to say that they are giving Rx drugs to the people! I hope AARP takes a stand against this form of murder of the sick, elderly, and poor, because that is exactly what it is! Anyone who can afford this plan can afford a lot of drugs and it is not for their benefit but for those who can't afford it and will die from not having needed medication or freezing and starving to pay what they have to pay. On top of all this as a higher medicare payment out of every SS check!
There weren't many tears shed for the thousands of elderly, poor and sick who died in the catastrophe along the gulf coast! After all they were old and dieing and just saved the government millions of dollars every month since!
Feeling more anger every day!

5. Money always flows in the same direction.
That's the scam. And life or death of human beings is completely irrelevant, as it ever was. In Iraq, in NOLA or anywhere the separated power rules. Anger there too, but it turns cold.

6. How is this not better than the status quo?
I agree the plan is terrible and a free leg up for the insurance and pharmaceutical companies, but in what situation is this plan worse than the status quo?
