Four U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq-military

BAGHDAD, Dec 10 (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers were killed in separate attacks in Iraq on Saturday, the U.S. military said.

Two soldiers were killed when they were fired upon in the Yusufiyah district southwest of Baghdad, while another soldier was killed by small-arms fire while on patrol northwest of the capital, the military said.

A fourth soldier was killed when his patrol struck a makeshift bomb in north Baghdad.

Well, part of it anyway. The other parts will be a SUNNI Theocracy and maybe KURDistan, which may be a nice democracy if the TURKS don't invade...

41. I remember in March of 03 ....
..... an ex CIA head from Iraq was on NPR and said that getting to Baghdad will not be the problem but
then is when the problems will start because their are 103 different sides in Iraq (really Mesopotamia)
and that the common thread through out them was that they did not like each other.

Bush has open up the jaws of hell and stoked it's fires ...... God, what a clueless asshole.

bush, Rummy, Cheney, Wolfie, Rice, Pearl, Faith, Bolton, Libby, and company should be up on
war crimes and ......... I can not put what I want there.

7. What's the difference between an "IED" and a "makeshift bomb"?
Are they trying to make it sound like some schmuck made a killing device in his basement, in his spare time? Does it seem less onerous if it's a "makeshift" explosive?

And another thing: I wish they would explain each shooting, as in #2139 was shot in the right eye, #2140 was shot through the neck, et cetera. Make it a bit more graphic, so people at home aren't thinking these unfortunate soldiers were all hit dead center in the heart and died immediately, instead of a vital blood supply being struck so they died a slow agonizing death as they exsanguinated all over the sands or streets of Iraq.

27. As far as a "makeshift" bomb,
I've seen a video clip of a homemade IED. The explosion was tremendous. It's doubtful anybody could survive a blast like that.

The Iraqis have plenty of material: most of it comes from the weapons dump at Al-Qaqaa. The U.S., under RumsFailed's sloppy command, just left 350,000 pounds unguarded. Believe me, the Iraqis wasted no time in taking that stuff.

RumsFailed is responsible for the deaths of his own troops.

36. These Soldiers Would Be Alive If We Had Listened to Howard Dean All Along
Yet, Howard Dean will be criticized heavily tomorrow on the talk shows, and not Bush for lying us into war which caused these deaths.

The reason? The MSM and their corporate over-lords have no skin in the game. Their children are not dying in Iraq, so there's no personal connection to the story.

Our nation is a rigid, class-based society where the working class and the poor's children are nothing more than cannon fodder for big oil. Our media is part of the upper class whose children go to Ivy League schools, have summer homes, and memberships in country clubs. (Recall, in the Valerie Plame case, Time Magazine report Matt Cooper left the swimming pool at his country club in order to get Rove's call about Plame.)

Folks, the system works against us. As we've seen in Katrina and Iraq, the deaths of the poor and lower class just don't matter.

43. Pile 'em high!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

Carl Sandburg

Bring the troops home alive and not in pine boxes.
Bring them home today.

45. Four U.S. Troops Killed in Iraq Violence
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051210/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq;_ylt=AmGDg43_j4zYQ_yAtVRKCbpI2ocA;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents killed four American soldiers in separate attacks Saturday as violence mounted five days ahead of national elections. U.S. officials announced the release of 238 detainees but said the move was unrelated to demands by kidnappers of four Christian peace activists to free all prisoners.

Two of the soldiers were killed by small arms fire southwest of the capital, the U.S. command said. The others died in a roadside bombing in Baghdad's Sunni neighborhood of Azamiyah and by small arms fire north of the city, according to the command.

The U.S. military also said an American soldier was killed and 11 others wounded Friday in a suicide car bombing in the Abu Ghraib district of western Baghdad. That brought to at least 2,140 the number of U.S. military members who have died since the war began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Concern mounted over the fate of the four activists as a deadline set by kidnappers threatening to kill them passed on Saturday. The Interior Ministry said it had no information about the hostages, and various emissaries sent from Canada and Britain showed no sign they had established contact with the kidnappers.....

Seems to me that losing troops to small arms fire is a sign of deterioration in the situation.

On edit: OP sounds pretty callous. Dead for this lie is terrible any way it happens.

47. I believe OSD lists cause of death, but their database always seems to be
a dozen or two behind the others' lists.

Anyone who dies over there, it is terrible, you are right. If an out of shape reservist has a heart attack because he's wearing his armor and not drinking enough water, it is terrible. If they get blown up, it is terrible. The whole fucking thing is terrible.

How many before the smug GOP bastards start getting uneasy???
