Dean fires back at GOP on Iraq
Dem chairman says party stands for 'moral values'

LAKE BUENA VISTA - Stung by a Republican charge that his party wants to surrender in Iraq, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said Friday night that Democrats stand for "moral values" at home and winning the war on terror.

About 2,000 wildly applauding Florida Democrats turned out for a pep rally at Walt Disney World, on the eve of their state conference, to hear Dean and other national party leaders blast President Bush and Republican policies in Congress. Earlier in the day, the GOP had posted an Internet advertisement featuring a white flag - with sound bites from Dean and Sens. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and John Kerry, D-Mass., sharply attacking military policies in Iraq.

In his 20-minute talk, Dean did not mention the new Republican broadside. But he said the Bush administration has not "learned the lesson of history," and compared its policies to those of President Nixon in Vietnam.

"Our troops deserve better," he said. "This time, Democrats are determined to set a different course for the nation - now - to tell the truth to the American people and save the lives of American soldiers, and keep America safe.

2. Now that the repukes have their white flag ads out
I would really like to see Moveon.org come out with some 'lying chickenhawk' ads. There is more evidence of chimpie's and ole Big Dick's lying than there is regarding 'white flag Dems.' They are both hardcore chickenhawks. Hell, bring up again Bush's abandonment of his ANG commitment Fight fire with fire.

26. Excellent idea.

:hi:

I also think Moveon or the DNC should use the white flag add and merge it into the American Flag with a clarification of Dean's statements and the Democratic position. They could also morph Dean's face into Kerry's, Murtha's and the many other Democratic Veteran's who've served this country with honor.

3. We should come out with a ad
The ad should be simple do you want your tax dollar spent in Iraq or in your own country. The ad could show the devastation in the gulf and show the billions being spent in Iraq.

4. 'moral values'
Please recall my earlier posts on this forum in which I stated that the problem with the Democratic party today was its failure to utilize this argument. Indeed, the Democratic party has stood up for moral values. Case in point: FDR and his New Deal -- all of which were consistent with the teachings of our Founding Fathers and which have a moral, biblical base. It is time for the Democrats to boldly assert that their agenda, not that of the Republicans, is the moral guarantor of society.

Let us hope that they will finally awaken to this crucial matter.

5. new meme? "I Value our Troops"
as opposed to "I Support our Troops"

as in, value their role in service to our country; value their service through adequate resources to carry out missions that they may be sent on; value their service and any injuries that might be incurred as in adequately providing VA services; and most important - value their lives and never put those lives at risk for a political reason rather than real national security.

8. I like that. I like it very much, salin.
It brings to mind a different concept. Support is a wishy-washy concept, like supporting your home team, which is why I think the term is used for the troops, one side against the other.

But when you value something, you treat it with the utmost respect and care.

That would be a great bumper sticker. I'm going to start writing "I value our troops" across the backs of envelopes that I send in the mail. I'm going to print that slogan on Avery business cards (the kind you can design your own on the computer), and include one in every piece of mail I send out, and will leave one here and there where I live as I go about shopping, et cetera.

I Value Our Troops

16. I may not see the response as most of the recipients will be unknown to me
If enough people do this, though, the meme might spread. I hope so, because I never did care for the "support" word; it didn't quite convey my feelings.

6. "no more walls with 55,000 names of courageous Americans"
"We want no more walls with 55,000 names of courageous Americans who were let down by their government," said Dean. "Democrats are united - we are united in our belief that we can and must win the war on terror."

7. We need to DEMAND that the DLC comes out in defense of Howard
on this issue. If they leave him twisting in the wind being called a defeatist, then as far as I'm concerned each and every one of the can rot in the political hell that they are creating for democrats everywhere. They've become a useless bunch of parasites attached to the party sucking the lifeblood out of it. They've betrayed our valued, and they've taken the 'cover their asses at any cost' road way too many times. It is now time to become as militant, strident, and forceful and the crazy asshole republicans have been for the last few years. I do not want my kids and grandkids to grow up in a country where honor and integrity, decency and concern for your fellow man/woman count for nothing next to the 'America first and foremost for the rich and greedy' politics and politicians that are in control now.

18. Well then maybe we should try to peel off their people one by one.
If Biden and Hillary and whoever else is pulling the strings over there can be made to see the light, that they are on the wrong side of a lot of this stuff, that constantly running to a moving target "center" that has been largely defined by the opposition, and that they better get on the team or else, ...

I guess we're already trying to do that. :-)

12. Go Dean, you've made me proud again
Bush has no plan for anything! He knows absolutely nothing about war, and he has his own interest and his corporate backers at heart, not the military, nor the civilians. He just can't get enough money, so he wants this bloody "war" to continue as long as possible.

 Thank you Howard Dean for standing up to the Bushgang and their ilk.

21. Lieberman's the big problem for Dean and the rest of us
Edited on Sat Dec-10-05 02:25 PM by baby_bear
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-Lieberman-Dems.html

<snip>
Sen. Joe Lieberman's staunch stay-the-course defense of President Bush's Iraq policies isn't winning him any friends among fellow Democrats. Lieberman's pro-war views may be winning him praise from a grateful White House, but some Democratic colleagues see him as undercutting their party's efforts to wrest control of Congress from the GOP next fall. ''He's doing damage to the ability of Democrats to wage a national campaign,'' said Ken Dautrich, a University of Connecticut public policy professor. ''It's Lieberman being Lieberman. And it's frustrating for people trying to put a Democratic strategy together.''
...
Lieberman's pro-Bush stance has long rankled many Democrats, but his comments Tuesday scolding anti-war critics within his own party had a sharper edge. ''It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be commander in chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine presidential credibility at our nation's peril,'' said Lieberman, urging bipartisan cooperation.

The words drew a frosty response from Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, a former Lieberman foe during the 2004 presidential primaries. ''We believe that talking about the president's failed strategy in Iraq is not unpatriotic,'' Dean said on CNN. ''It may undercut the president, but it does not undercut our troops.'' Dean tossed a parting jab at Lieberman, claiming Democrats are not as divided on Iraq as press reports say. ''The differences are pretty small, perhaps, Senator Lieberman excepted,'' he said.
...
Lieberman huddled with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld at a private Pentagon breakfast meeting Thursday amid rumors he could be a potential Rumsfeld successor. Bush singled out Lieberman for praise in his two most recent speeches, including Wednesday in New York where he noted: ''Senator Lieberman is right.''

24. Have I mentioned lately how much I love Howard Dean?
Let me count another way...

"The words drew a frosty response from Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, a former Lieberman foe during the 2004 presidential primaries. ''The differences are pretty small, perhaps, Senator Lieberman excepted,'' he said."

Thank you for that, BabyBear.
The truth is so refreshing.
And he is so very BRAVE.

29. I just now sent off emails
to all the Sunday morning talk shows and to CNN, MSNBC, that if they were going to show any exceprt from that reprobate attack ad by the republicans, I wanted them to use the following excerpt from Howard Dean's speech on Saturday. Also, if they used something different to imply that the Dems are what the republican ad suggests then one could only gather that you are pro bush and anti dem. Now here is the exceprt:

"Our troops deserve better. This time, Democrats are determined to set a different course for the nation - now - to tell the truth to the American people and save the lives of American soldiers, and keep America safe."
