Bush’s approval rating rises to 42 percent
WASHINGTON - President Bush’s improved standing with whites, men, Catholics and other core supporters has been a key factor in pushing his job approval rating up to 42 percent. That’s the highest level since summer.

Shifting into campaign mode to reverse his slide in public opinion polls, Bush has boosted his support among key constituency groups — particularly in the Northeast and West — on his handling of Iraq and the economy, an AP-Ipsos poll found.

Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 03:14 AM by kysrsoze
What has this guy done any differently? It's all words. What has changed? Nothing.

It's all about holiday shopping and the fact that the stock market hasn't tanked. Let's see what happens at earnings time - especially with the darlings of Wall Street - Ford and GM. The housing market is already slowing too. Have you noticed lately how difficult it is to not find things made in China?

What the heck has improved? What? How can 40+% support this man? Did they forget everything? Do they not care? Is it because a new TV season has started, and they got sucked into Lost/The O.C./American Idol/etc.?

18. Yes, they did....
...but they are going back up again. My guess is that the oil company executives manipulated the prices to coincide with the first rush of Christmas/Holiday/Whatever buying, which put the sheep-like consumer masses into a trance-like state so the later would whip out their Slavery-Debt cards and buy, buy, buy. Now that the flock has been fleeced, gas prices are back up again (up a nickel in my area from Thursday).

On another note, my prediction is that ChimpBush's popularity won't survive first contact with next year's hurricane season (forecasts are currently calling for a season that will be as active as the past one).

34. my first winter gas bill sucked. it's nearly at the high I had last year.
I'm figuring my gas bill goes from a max $125 each month to $225. That sucks. I don't mind paying for gasoline. Love my car, but rarely drive in winter and I can get around by bike and train in the city, plus the whole point is that gasoline is something frequently wasted unlike natural gas. This is gonna be a hard year for people, like my next door neighbors whose gas bill hit $400 one month last year. They can look forward to $700.

12. Oh nuts. This is not true. These polls are slanted to get the results
that msn wants. I mean, what with the job cuts in the auto industry, the cold weather and the cost to keep warm, and even though people are talking about the drop in gasoline prices IT IS STILL EXPENSIVE AND BEYOND THE POCKETBOOKS OF THOSE WITH MINIMUM WAGE (OR NO) JOBS. These crappy polls do not reach out to the silent majority, the ones really paying the price for the ultra rich's tax breaks.

We need, we desperately need, a movement to get the poor and the young out to vote. The poor are always underrepresented because they don't vote. In Omaha it is a historical fact that the poorest sections of town have always had the lowest voter turnout. And I have a really strong suspicion that it's the same all over the country.

Now I truly believe that dems won the last two elections. But not by a large enough margin to prevent the theft of same. We need to get a larger chunk of the population to register, and then to get to the polls. (I'm forgetting to include the elderly who, what with all the crap that this administration has done to them are another untapped source of votes.)

Anyway, I am sure that these polls don't ask the people their opinions. If they did, you would be hearing different numbers.

All polls are slanted. Face it. But I imagine that the President's poll ratings did improve when he masked his amnesty plan as a "guest worker" program after he actually went to look at the US-Mexican border for a change.

You might not know it in Massachusetts but we are being over run with illegal immigrants.

24. Yeah, and he hasn't touched a "drop" since his 40th!
If they manufacture other news, why would "ratings" be any exempt?

Besides, with each proceeding press conference, he gets less and less applause. He repeats and repeats himself...a tactic clearly NOT working anymore.

And Karl Rove is clearly is "hot water"...as is Rummy. And Darth. Who on earth would give Shrub the vote of confidence with no one around to make his decisions?

I say he's STILL in the 30's...IF he's lucky. My guess is high-20's. And that's ONLY because of the Barney Christmas (I mean "Holiday") video.

With the price decrease in gasoline his poll rating went up. True Americans knowing the truth about the war the rising health care and jobs going overseas disapprove of this administration. The price of gas will go up and heat cost will rise than check back on his poll ratings.

54. Politics 101, Lesson #1: Propaganda Works
The republican about-face since Goldwater's loss in 64 has been rooted in the successful application of propaganda for and about all sectors of society.

When Democrats learn to apply coherent and effective counterpropaganda (which is in most aspects identical in methodology and guiding principles to propaganda), things will start to change.

and became instantly depressed.

Where is Fitzpatrick on the leak? Why has the MSM dropped it? What about Fritz and the SEC? And Tom Delay? What about Duke Cunningham? Shouldn't that merit at least more than just one day? Instead, they gave a lot of airtime to the SOBs who pounced on Dean last week.

I believe the short attention span of America is directly tied to the news channel's equally short attention news. Either that or they're trying to be "nice". Either way, I am feeling defeatist right now, so I'll just sulk in a corner.
