Former Oklahoma congressman urges GOP to focus more on minorities
The Republican party cannot survive unless it makes more inroads among blacks and other minority groups, former Oklahoma congressman J.C. Watts said Friday.

Watts, a Republican himself, spoke to about 175 at a dinner in downtown Little Rock, held as a for Asa Hutchinson, who is seeking the GOP nomination for governor.

"We cannot sustain ourselves as a party if we don't do better in those non-traditional constituencies," said Watts, who is black. "I think we have to understand that the question for our party in the 21st century is: Why is it that so many black people who agree with Asa Hutchinson and would agree with us as Republicans don't vote that way?"

.......

"We need to say, 'if you want an opportunity to own a home, if you want quality education for your children, and if you want an entrepreneurial opportunity, come into our tent," Watts said.

1. JC Watts has been a tool and a token AA talking head
for the repubs for the last 2 elections.

He acts as though he has clout with them....but he will simply be replaced by the newest AA bought by the repukes!

2. He's been beating that drum for years, in fact, it was why he didn't run
again. He was also tired of being mocked at CBC meetings.

So why does he think it is gonna play now?

post "if you want an opportunity to own a home," etc. is laughable. I guess all the blacks in New Orleans who were victims of Katrina should join the republican party and then 'poof' everything will come their way.

5. R-i-i-i-i-g-h-t!!!! I would think that having a good education and a
good job would help one own a home. Those won't come from Republicans.

6. "Come into our TENT"??
Does this lame brained fool realize how many people are living in TENTS on the Gulf Coast? How about reaching out to them. Then you just may make believers out of them.

7. I don't think he realizes that Massa has no more use for him.....
With Condi Rice and Alberto Gonzales selling brown skinned people left and right, JC Watts' "I'm a Republican please don't lynch me" schtick isn't very helpful. Look what these ass clowns did to Alan Keyes, after he pimped pro-Aparthied propoganda for Red Ink Ronnie.

8. Who's Your Mama....
Most of us have learned the hard way to closely examine the actions of this White House and the repubs - as their words are dishonest. There are good reasons why minorities overwhelmingly vote dem - and all the words in the world, even coming from repub minorities themselves, aren't going to change this.

9. The GOP doesn't give a crap
about blacks and other minority groups. They care about big companies who can give money to their campaigns.

10. I Think the GOP Has Picked on Minorities Enough Already
The GOP should focus on domestic terrorists, hate crimes, and white collar crime and wipe them out.

11. Oh, the GOP is focused on minorities all right....
Focused on eliminating them out of existence (except the token ones who do their bidding).

Exhibit A: Katrina.
Exhibit B: Voter Disenfranchisement.
Exhibit C: Alito (who would certainly help roll back ANY civil rights gains made in the past 40-50 years)

12. What kind of "inroads" are we talking about here?
The Republicans should have been worried about their own tent blowing over on August 29th. Instead, their leader was showing off his golf swing in Crawford.
