Ford to meet with gay, human rights groups

Representatives from several gay, lesbian and human rights organizations are slated to meet with Ford Motor Co. this afternoon in Washington, D.C., to discuss the automaker’s decision to pull Jaguar and Land Rover ads from magazines that cater to gays and lesbians.

Jeff Montgomery, executive director of the Detroit-based Triangle Foundation — Michigan's statewide civil rights, advocacy and anti-violence organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people — said his organization and several others are slated to talk with Ford.

“We’re going to be asking them for an explanation of exactly what has or has not transpired between them and the AFA,” he said, referring to the 2-million-member American Family Association.

Ford Motor has denied that it made its marketing decision as part of a secret deal with the conservative Christian group, but the AFA seems to be suggesting otherwise.

I'd better see that the situation was resolved to the human rights groups' satisfaction.


One thing that I am grateful for - I can always count on Wildmon's big mouth (head honcho at the notorious "American Family Association"; if he's going around bragging that he reached an agreement with Ford, you can probably take that to the Bank, due to his enormous ego.

Ford Motor Company bought Volvo in 1999. They said last week that Volvo would continue to advertise in GLBT publications. The Ford brands that were withdrawn were Jaguar and Land Rover.

...other brands have decided against that avenue. The Ford, Mercury and Lincoln brands don't advertise in gay and lesbian publications and don't plan to do so, the automaker has said.

Personally, even though I am not a member of the GLBT community, I wouldn't buy any car that had Ford, Mercury or Lincoln on it. Now that I know about the Volvo purchase (I thank you by the way for enlightening me) I would not buy Volvo either.

On the bad side AFA is a bunch of control freak, bigot ,christian nazi fucks and Ford is a bunch of greedy suck up spineless assholes catering to whomever has power because they are skeered of bad P.R. Controversy scares the greedy. So they cut out the smaller Gay market to go mainstream follow the money folks greed and conservatism motivated Ford.


On the good side of this..who really likes it when a magazine jammed packed with advertising bullshit?
I HATE ads. They are INTRUSIVE. If I wanted a damn car,as in a car I know the brands out there and who makes what fucking cars. I am not going to waste my time on a car I can't afford or a gas guzzling monstrosity. So I know where to go to get cars thank you.I don't need an ad on every other page of everything I fucking READ every fucking billboard and every fucking restroom stall. Fuck the corporation for cluttering up the world with their marketing crap.

Oh and about the AFA It's disgusting immoral and corrupt, and Ford you are pathetic greedy and corrupt piece of shit corporation for many things including sucking up to something as disgusting and anti-American as the AFA.
