Authorities raid 13 San Diego area marijuana dispensaries
Federal drug agents raided 13 San Diego-area marijuana dispensaries on Monday, seizing large quantities of the drug, computers and records in one of the largest crackdowns of its kind in California.

Authorities executed warrants at 11 dispensaries in San Diego and two in the northern suburb of San Marcos as well as the home of one of the shops' owners, said John Fernandes, special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

"These were nothing more than a front for distributing marijuana," Fernandes said.

.....

Steph Sherer of the medical marijuana advocacy group Americans for Safe Access called the raids outrageous and a cowardly act of an administration that was out of touch with voters. Medical marijuana advocates planned to protest the raids Tuesday outside San Diego's federal courthouse.

16. No shit.
They went in guns drawn. I know this poor viet vet in a wheelchair that works at one of the dispensaries, I cant imagine them busting in on him. This is despicable. They could have at least gone in with lawyers, in a civil manner. Fuck I am pissed.

6. They are establishments, not fronts

They are establishments that pay taxes and employ people. And we owe these raids to the Schedule One Lie that says the greatest medicinal plant in the history of man has no medical value, is addictive, and not even safe under a doctor's care even when hundreds of millions of people use it safely without a doctor's care. The proper intellectual classification of cannabis would either be Schedule 4 or 5, not that there is going to be a discussion on television by medical researchers on the subject.

8. Time to secede! What the hell are we pouring money into these Bushites'
pockets for? Mass murder, secret prisons, torture, massive looting, unparalled corruption, fraudulent elections, theocracy, bankrupty for the poor, tax cuts for the rich, treason and crime rampant in our government, shoving the dead bloated bodies of the poor aside to get that no-bid contract for Halliburton, can't even defend the Pentagon (where were you, Rummy? where WERE you on 9/11?), purging the honest, surrounding yourselves with toadies and liars, and now you're sticking your goddamned DEA agents in our faces?

I say secede. Every state. Let's break this up and throw these bastards a real "curveball." No more free lunch!

9. it's a WAR on pain, ya'll -- take it from me
i've had chronic pain for more than 2 years. it was associated with an infection in my spine. NO ONE TREATS PAIN. the reason why medical marijuana is used is BECAUSE WE CAN'T GET RELIEF ANYWHERE ELSE. PERIOD.

this is much more than a boondoogle. at least to those of us who live everyday in excruciating pain.

kcik and nom.

10. Too bad it's federal
The locals must be complicit .
Blaming them could get a sherrif involved in a recall ala Marin Co. For now, however, we should put the Congress rep responsible. Make them seem Unreasonable if they support the Admin. Make them seem like Cruel Repuplicans with one party rule, again . Tie them again, to Teri Schiavo, idiot pharmacists, etc.

If you find yourself on a jury in such a case, vote not guilty in the interests of justice.

12. That is what it's going to have to come down to....
The federal government will simply not let Californians live with the laws for which they voted. I imagine indictments will come down soon (although the feds may be content just to have fucked-up those dispensaries) and the operators will be facing federal marijuana distribution charges. They won't be allowed to even mention medical marijuana during their trials, if past rulings are any indication. That means there needs to be massive public education of the potential jury pool about what's really going on, and what people's rights as jury members are.

There is also the matter of local complicity. From the initial reports, it sounds like local police agencies were involved. It seems like the voters of San Diego might want to hold their officials to account on this, maybe pass an ordinance barring any further police department cooperation with the feds on drug investigations until the feds promise to butt out.

14. A marijuana dispensary is not a front for distributing marijuana.
Jack Abramoff didn't name his cruise line "GOP Slush Fund." If he had, it wouldn't have been a front for distributing money to the Republican Party.
