Source says Romney won't seek re-election in '06
12/14/2005 2:45 PM
By: The Associated Press

A source close to Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said he has decided not to seek re-election as governor in 2006.

The decision is seen as increasing the likelihood that Romney will seek the Republican nomination for president in 2008.

The source said Romney will make the announcement this evening.

With Romney out of the race, Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey is expected to seek the Republican nomination for governor next year.

Source: Romney Won't Run for Re-Election
By GLEN JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, December 14, 2005
(12-14) 12:07 PST BOSTON (AP) --

Republican Gov. Mitt Romney has decided not to seek re-election in 2006, a source told The Associated Press on Wednesday, fueling speculation he will run for president in 2008.

The 58-year-old businessman and son of former Michigan Gov. George Romney scheduled an evening news conference to announce his re-election plans.

The source, who is close to the governor and familiar with his plans, said Romney had decided not to seek a second term. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that does not necessarily mean Romney is running for president.

Romney declared earlier this year he was "testing the waters" for a White House run.

6. I don't disagree w/ your assessment
but I don't understand it either. Part of me thinks he will be wildly popular, but part of me thinks he won't. I can't quite find a good argument that makes me think more definitely in either direction.

What is your reasoning behind your thought that he'll go no where?

9. the sooner he packs his carpet bag, the better
fuck him. he's spent more time outside the state, than in it governing; he's been fundraising by bad mouthing the state he governs; he ran as a Left-Leaning moderate, onLy to try and govern as a hardLine conservative.

i repeat, fuck him, and good riddance.

10. This isn't news
I predicted this when he first announced he was running for gov back in 2001 sometime. His prez ambitions have been plain as day. The reason he's put off the announcement was an attempt to get his agenda through the legislature to have some actual progress to brag about. Too bad for his the Dems were on to him a long time ago.
