No Republican Matches Spitzer in New York

(Angus Reid Global Scan) – Eliot Spitzer continues to dominate in the early stages of New York’s gubernatorial race, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. At least 60 per cent of respondents in the Empire State would support the Democratic state attorney general in head-to-head contests against four prospective GOP rivals.

Republican George Pataki has acted as New York’s governor since January 1995. He was re-elected in 1998 with 54 per cent of the vote, and in 2002 with 49 per cent, defeating Democrat Carl McCall and independent candidate Tom Golisano. In July, Pataki ruled out seeking a new term in office.

Spitzer holds a 38-point lead over Golisano, a 47-point advantage over former Massachusetts governor William Weld, a 46-point lead over state secretary Randy Daniels, and a 50-point advantage over former state Assembly minority leader John Faso.

Spitzer raised some $5 million U.S. in a single fundraising event last week in Manhattan. More than 1,500 people attended the event, tickets to which were at least $1,000 U.S. each. Spitzer criticized Pataki for the lack of transparency in his administration, saying, "For the last 11 years, we haven’t known where we are going."

2. I believe Spitzer's a lock for NY Gov...
...of course, anything can happen between now and next Nov, but Spitzer's very popular here.

3. I agree and plan on voting for him. Maybe in time he'll run for President.
If he does an excellent job as Gov I think I'd like to see him run for President, and win, after the next Dem Pres elected in 08 has served their two terms of course. :-)

4. I agree. And I think he'll win, especially since the Republicans have no
one, unless you count Gallisano. Schumer was interested in running, but Cuomo talked him out of it, persuaded him to stay in the Senate, to make up the numbers, saving the cost of a primary. IMHO, Spitzer would make a brilliant governor.:-):hi:

5. Good, now can someone tell Tom Suozzi to shut the hell up!
I am going to votefor Spitzer next year because he's honest and has what it takes to take on Albany. Suozzi is trying to block him from getting elected, and may get Wall Street backing to do so in a primaries.

BTW, I have one question: Spitzer's office filed a motion against the Trainst Worker's Union that they were violation of the Taylor Law (which makes it illegal for NYS public employees to strike, particularly those in transit and other necessary departments. I'm afraid that the Transit Worker's Union will make a big deal out of this when he is just doing his job, because he's just enforcing law.

6. I agree with you about Spitzer. And he is just enforcing the law.
It appears that the union is really mad at Bloomberg.

7. Thats normal, any pubic union would get the same notice.....
informing them of the Taylor Law, provisions and penalities. The TWU already knows this since years back they got whacked by it.

8. I am happy for him but...
we really need someone of his caliber as attorney general over Wall Street. He did SO much good. I think Wall St. will finance him just to get him out of their hair.
