Dems get 2nd gubernatorial hopeful
By JAY ROOTSTAR-TELEGRAM AUSTIN BUREAUAUSTIN -- Saying Texas faces a "crisis of corruption," former state Supreme Court Justice Bob Gammage, a Democrat, jumped into the race for governor Thursday.
"Today there is a corrupt political machine which stretches from Washington, D.C., to Austin," Gammage said before plunking down his $3,750 filing fee at the Democratic Party headquarters in Austin. "It has corrupted our politics; it has corrupted our government; and more importantly, it has corrupted public policy and betrayed the public trust."
Gammage, 67, joins a growing list of candidates who want to be elected governor next year. Former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell, D-Houston, has also filed to run in the March Democratic primary, and Felix Alvarado, an assistant principal at Fort Worth's William James Middle School, has said he will, too.
