Pelosi Hails Democrats' Diverse War Stances

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said yesterday that Democrats should not seek a unified position on an exit strategy in Iraq, calling the war a matter of individual conscience and saying differing positions within the caucus are a source of strength for the party.

Pelosi said Democrats will produce an issue agenda for the 2006 elections but it will not include a position on Iraq. There is consensus within the party that President Bush has mismanaged the war and that a new course is needed, but House Democrats should be free to take individual positions, she sad.

"There is no one Democratic voice . . . and there is no one Democratic position," Pelosi said in an interview with Washington Post reporters and editors.

...

She said her support for Murtha was not intended to forge a Democratic position on the war, adding that she blocked an effort by some of her colleagues to put the Democrats on record backing Murtha.

3. Why should there be a unified position on such a trivial issue?
It's not like it's gonna kill somebody if this war continues ...

Ok, it's not gonna kill anyone "important". Mostly it will just kill Iraqis. And a few grunts.

4. Memo to Nancy
You are House Minority "Leader." Please "lead." The Dems need a united voice on Iraq - now. How many more people will die while you do a song and dance on this most important issue? Unfortunately, there is a Democratic position - one too many Dems have perfected. It's called bending over and taking it in the ass.

5. Well, this will certainly shut up any Repug criticism that
Democrats have no plan. Apparently we have several, all saying different things.

And that's "OK" with us?

6. "there is no one Democratic position"
Pretty well sums it up...a major foreign policy initiative and the Dems don't have a position on it other than personal conscience.

Pelosi seems to have accepted the Right's stereotypes about the Democrats; ineffectual and can't make a firm stand.

8. this illustrates perfectly why I'm green....
The Green party isn't internally ambiguous about the war against Iraq. Greens oppose the war. Period.

9. Gee what a coincidence.
This neo-con supporting righty I know just yesterday was asking why there isn't any diverse opinion about the war on the left. Cited some righties that disagreed with the war and wondered why the left had no diversity of opinion.

Interesting timing... wonder if it was a talking point he was vomiting out, and if so, was she attempting to respond to it?
