Iraq war makes US safer: US Defense Secretary Rumsfeld
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said the US-led war in Iraq has made the United States more secure.

"We're safer in the sense the violent extremists have said what they intend to do, and they intend to bring down the moderate Muslim regime in that region," he told Fox news.

"So victory is, in a real sense, maintaining our way of life. And Iraq is a country with oil, with water, with intelligent people, with history and if that were to be turned into a haven for terrorists, the world would be a different world.

"The region would be a different region, and the vulnerability of the American people there, in other parts of the world, and in the United States would be greater by terrorists. There's no doubt in my mind," he said.

Pressed again as to how the war makes the United States safer, Rumsfeld told Fox, "Because we want to fight the terrorists not in the United States, but outside of the United States."

11. You beat me to it, Saigon.
Here's what I was just about to say:

Fucking Idiot. What Rumsfailed has, in fact done, is to make the U.S. much less safe in the world. Here's why: after the war started going badly, in the summer of 2003, the rest of the world started to take notice.

Other countries noticed that the U.S. was GETTING BEATEN!!!! in a helpless country with no army. Hard to believe! With the world's strongest military, and with us sinking around $4.9 billion dollars a month there. Still, we could not win.

The world suddenly saw the U.S. as weak, vulnerable. "The Beast Bleeds", wrote Stan Goff. As we continue to bleed both in lives and in tax dollars, the rest of the world watches and wonders how it will turn out.

WE ARE OH SO MUCH WEAKER TODAY because of you, Don RumsFailed.

6. Not only is Rummy an idiot ...
... let's remember that he personally made a note that making detainees stand in uncomfortable positions for hours was not 'torture', because he, himself, often 'stood' for hours in his office, working.

And let's remember that that note was made by a man who had others sign his name to letters sent to parents who had lost a son/daughter in Iraq.

Apparently, standing for hours isn't torture - but having to sign your name to a few letters IS!

What a hypocritical, senile and dangerous old man.

I can ever makes any sense of what he says anymore. He sounds more and more like Bush every day, just stringing together unrelated sentance fragments.

13. Bullshit. As Randi said yesterday,
pulling our military bases out of Saudi Arabia has made us safer (though we will never hear this from Bu$hCo). That's what they were pissed off at us about in the first place.

But we still are in hock to the Saudis up to our collective national ass.

Somebody stop the room from spinning... I can't take any more bullshit...

of lives if he just sent a worldwide broadcast for all evil terra dudes to meet at some uninhabited atoll in the Pacific Ocean.

All the assholes from this POS wh take turns repeating this same, tired, lame line.

--"Because we want to fight the terrorists not in the United States, but outside of the United States."--

WTF is this?

--"So victory is, in a real sense, maintaining our way of life. And Iraq is a country with oil, with water, with intelligent people, with history and if that were to be turned into a haven for terrorists, the world would be a different world.--

Prewar predictions coming back to bite Officials who forecast a brief conflict now say it'll be neither quick nor easy. That could open the administration to tough questions about credibility.

Changing rhetoric of war

* Feb. 7, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, to U.S. troops in Aviano, Italy: "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months."

* March 4, Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at a breakfast with reporters: "What you'd like to do is have it be a short, short conflict. . . . Iraq is much weaker than they were back in the '90s," when its forces were routed from Kuwait.
