U.S. troops in Iraq to pre-vote levels end Jan

WASHINGTON, Dec 16 (Reuters) - The number of U.S. troops in Iraq, boosted to provide additional security for Thursday's election, should fall back to a pre-election "baseline" level by the end of January or early February, the top general in Iraq said on Friday.

Army Gen. George Casey, the U.S. commander in Iraq, was asked in a video-linked news briefing when U.S. troops would be drawn down to their pre-election baseline level, which was about 138,000, from the current more than 150,000.

"We should be down to the old baseline there I'd say probably around the end of January, maybe early February," he said.

2. Mm. Leaving 20,000 troops there will be called "withdrawal"

Kind of like when Darth Vader told Lando Calrissian that he would not leave any troops on the Cloud City.

"Good. It would be unfortunate if I had to leave a garrison."

following SWs after #2 or #3.

So, the 20,000 are the ones who will staff the Permanent Bases that PNAC's clients "paid for" in their campaign contributions?

4. This is the much touted drawdown
This is for all the suckers who haven't been paying attention, just like the half off sales where they mark the merchandise way up and then down to where they wanted to sell it in the first place.
And ya know what? it's going to work on the fucking brain deads out here.

5. Sorry, I can't agree. I see nothing deceptive about the headline or story.
The headline states that we are going back to pre-vote level and the first line in the story explains that the levels were increased for the election and are now returning to pre-election numbers.

pretty, straightforward.

6. From 150,000 to 138,000 is only about an 8% reduction
And that is only to the previous baseline. I am sure it will be touted as a big deal by Bushco, though.
