Planned billboard angers Arab-Americans
The message: “Don’t license terrorists, North Carolina”

RALEIGH, N.C. - The billboard image is striking: a photo of a man shrouded in a traditional Arab head scarf clutching a grenade and a North Carolina driver’s license.

The message: “Don’t license terrorists, North Carolina.”

A New York-based group that plans to place the ad near North Carolina’s Capitol this month says it is meant as a critique of the state’s driver’s license laws but Arab-American groups complain it is inflaming an anti-Arab sentiment.

“The message of the ad says that Arabs are dangerous and violent people and that therefore they should not get driver’s licenses and I think it’s bigoted. It’s racist,” said Christine Saah Nazer of the Washington D.C.-based Arab American Institute.



This image released by Coalition for a Secure Driver's License on Thursday, shows a proposed billboard slated for posting near the state capitol in Raleigh, N.C. The message on the billboard, "Don't license terrorists, North Carolina," has sparked political debate on North Carolina license laws.

3. Someone should get a billboard up with a picture of a
religious fundy out to bomb an abortion clinic. Let them show their hypocrisy for all to see when they respond to THAT.

I'm sure they could of found a better way to get the message across then by sterotyping a group of people.

Sorry, I get all my news from radio and internet. Never watch TV and don't read the paper very often and I don't recognize either of these folks. Thanks.

21. NC has lots of moderate areas, and some VERY liberal areas
Large groupies of RW whackos are mainly in the Western part of the state (ala Eric Rudolph), Fayetteville, Jacksonville, and parts in the East. RTP, the Piedmont, ASheville, Charlotte, Boone/Blowing Rock/Banner Elk, Wilmington, etc. are fine. Carrboro/Chapel Hill and Asheville are downright liberal.

I lived there for 17 years, mainly in Greensboro and Wilmington, with a detour in Fayetteville, and find NC overall much better than VA. Although I live ina very liberal part of VA...

22. That's the extreme western part of the state
There have always been alot of nuts in that area. Everyone in NC knows they're crazy. You cant tar the state because of that one area. Even the Bluest state has it's Freeper areas.
