Bush won't address report of NSA spying

President Bush refused to say whether the National Security Agency eavesdropped without warrants on people inside the United States but leaders of Congress condemned the practice on Friday and promised to look into what the administration has done.

...

Bush said in an interview that "we do not discuss ongoing intelligence operations to protect the country. And the reason why is that there's an enemy that lurks, that would like to know exactly what we're trying to do to stop them.

"I will make this point," Bush said. "That whatever I do to protect the American people _ and I have an obligation to do so _ that we will uphold the law, and decisions made are made understanding we have an obligation to protect the civil liberties of the American people."

17. And I like the way Condi sez things, like...."We don't torture prisoner
and the president has made it perfectly clear that we following the UN guidelines. And we take these issues every seriously.

Then comes Alberto Gonzales, and he sez, we don't torture prisoners, but if we have a dangerous terrorist and we have to get information that would save American lives, we will under special circumstances.

22. "Help Mommy, There's a Liberal Under my Bed"
hey! It has about the intelectual level as "there's an enemy that lurks"

It's like the Dr Seuss presidency, only without the humor.

"and Bush puzzled and puzzled til his puzzler was sore,
he said, there's an enemy close to our shore,

I must take your freedoms,
I must break the law,
Saddam had misdeedom's
that stuck in my craw

The liberals will squeel,
"the Constitutions in trouble"
I'll fry all their genitals,
"now how does that feel?"
cry all you want,
blow your trumtubbles
It won't affect me,
I'm safe in my bubble"

25. Letter to congress and senate -
On Sat. Dec 17, 2005 the president of the United States of America admitted that he authorized illegal wiretaps for the purpose of spying on U.S. citizens. This is a blatant violation of my civil rights as expressed in the Constitution of the United States. This is the same Constitution that every president before him has sworn on the bible to uphold and defend.

With his admission, he arrogantly disdains and dismisses my rights, your rights, and the rights of the very soldiers that he commands this day. His irrational thought process seems to say that “In order to preserve your civil liberties, freedom and privacy, your civil liberties, freedom and privacy must be covertly undermined.”

Our president cries out that in the reporting on his heinous activities, the free press aids terrorists and other enemies of this country. I do not see how this is possible. Enemies of the United States should always fear her and expect her full, focused and purposeful attentions. What I do not understand, is how the erosion of precious liberty, freedom and privacy can be interpreted as a net gain for the defense of our country.

The president’s outrage at having his covert activities exposed seems opportunistic, self serving and duplicitous. His claim that disclosing these activities may harm national security seems oddly incongruous in light of the allegations that someone on his senior staff was directly involved in disclosing the identity of a CIA agent for political hay making. Indeed. The vice presidents chief of staff has been indicted for lying to a grand jury about this disgusting affair.

I suspect that this president has committed multiple impeachable offenses and that the only reason he has not been impeached is that he belongs to the same party that enjoys a majority in both the congress and the senate. Investigations into the presidents activity that are intended to provide transparency for the American people have been suppressed and stalled. But here he is, covertly spying on the American people. Now, the presidents rank hypocrisy has given even members of his own party reason to pause and question the legitimacy of his actions.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Ben Franklin

9. "We do not discuss ongoing intelligence operations" yeah right
You never speak about such things - like when you outed existence of a mole in the Al-Quieda (sp) cell in London. just to score some stupid points in a speech. Great job not talking then ass hat. British Intelligence still doesn't trust us after that one.

Of course the ongoing operations he is talking about is the frantic destroying of all evidence of illegal spying and wiretaps of such threats to the republic as the ACLU or maybe greenpeace or Amnesty International perhaps.

11. The Constitution is the damned law!
His actions have gutted the Fourth Amendment.

"To preserve and protect the Constitution..." - I guess these words are just a formality to getting the keys to the White House.

13. Accountability dodge - translation in order
"We do not discuss anything we do with the hired help. What people need to know is what I tell them, and I'm telling you that evil-doers and lurkers make me have to destroy democracy in order to save it. Everything I do is right, you see, so I don't need no second guessing. I can't comment on ongoing investigations except to say Delay is innocent and I don't think we'll ever find out who outed Plame... (monkey smile)...I know and I'm not telling. If anything isn't part of an ongoing investigation, it is a matter of national security. See, (hang one arm on podium and make chimp smile)I can do whatever I want because I am the president."
