Bush least popular US president: survey

President George W Bush ranks as the least popular and most bellicose of the last 10 US presidents, according to a new survey.

Only nine per cent of the 662 people polled picked Bush as their favourite among the last 10 presidents.

John F Kennedy topped that part of the survey with 26 per cent, closely followed by Bill Clinton (25 per cent) and Ronald Reagan (23 per cent).

Bush was also viewed as the most warlike president (43 per cent), the worst for the economy (42 per cent) and the least effective (33 per cent). But he was rated most highly in response to a question on who would do the right thing even if it were unpopular.

1. One problem . . .
"But he was rated most highly in response to a question on who would do the right thing even if it were unpopular."

Assuming he could possibly figure out what the right thing to do would be.

matter of him doing the right thing even if it's unpopular, it's him doing his own thing even if it's unpopular. My way or the highway. The man has no convictions or scruples, he's just pig-headed, stubborn, greedy and self-centered.

The 'right' thing for some isn't necessarily the 'right' thing for all. He can be counted on to do the right thing for bushco and the wealthiest among us, even if it's wildly unpopular, both here and abroad.

68. Bush must be the biggest flip-flopper in political history
In less than 5 years, he's changed his position on just about every major issue out there:

first ignore terrorism, then solely focus on it
against homeland security, then for it
against a 9/11 commission, then for it
against nation building, then for it
for following letter & spirit of the law, then ignoring the letter and spirit of it
for leaning on Saudis to lower oil prices, then strangely silent when oil prices go through the roof

69. Exactly
when has he ever done the right thing? He would NEVER do the right thing, especially if it was unpopular - and he would only count his Saudi connections,PNAC buddies and the ultra-rightwing among those who decide what is and is not popular.

I think Carter is the one most likely to do the right thing even if it was unpopular and I think Clinton is a close second. Clinton is the one who played brinksmanship with the Republicans over the budget and shut the government down temporarily. I think that counts as an unpopular thing to do, but it was the right one and it worked.

8. Other Polls Have Suggested...
Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (2), and Clinton, as well as JFK & Reagan.

My vote

1st Best & Most Popular: FDR! Best ever! He held 3 terms. That's 16 years. No President's ever held the popular vote for so long.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Delano_Roosevelt

2nd Runner-Up: JFK. Hands-down.

3rd Runner-Up: Clinton. Best years our country ever had in our current lifetime. The economy was never better, he kept many terrorists from major attacks on our soil, and abroad, was a Rhodes Scholar (as was JFK), and actually spoke with "we the people." He had a brain, *sigh*

Reagan wasn't very bright, and a puppet for the early stages of neo-con, cronyism. We all know where that has led us.

But he only lived through 2+ months of his 4th term. So, 4 terms for FDR = 12 years and 2+ months.

Truman carried out the rest of FDR's term plus 4 on his own. So, the dem.'s controlled the WH for 20 years! Ike then ruined the party, so to speak.

30. This makes no sense. If 9% picked him,
how did he come in last?

If it's the last 10 presidents, and each president got 10% of the vote, they would all tie for first place.

Since Bush got a number very close to 10, and everyone else must have had a higher percent than W, either the votes were very, very, very close or the numbers have to add up to more than 100%.

According to the article, "John F Kennedy topped that part of the survey with 26 per cent, closely followed by Bill Clinton (25 per cent) and Ronald Reagan (23 per cent)," which only leaves 26 percent left to vote between the remaining seven presidents.

interesting choice of words.

"BTW, note that there were only 4 Democrats in the last 10 President, with 6

Oh that? THat is a question of WHO counted the Votes I'd think.. we're talking about ELECTED and not SELECTED, and for that matter Bush ain't even President, never was, never will be..

The reason that the dumbass Reagan clocks like that is SHEER media spin for DECADES.. I know, I was there and I watched them use the media to create an incredible bullshit factor..

48. Try this math
9% ranked him best, 93% put him somewhere lower. If enough of the 93% feel that he is #10, and the remaining 6 are randomly dispersed above him, there is no contradiction in saying that Bush was ranked worst overall, but achieved a #1 ranking from 9% of the people. The overall ranking is different from the number of #1 rankings that each received.

Reminds me of the poll in which 49% said Bush was a uniter, while 49% said he was a divider. So which is he? Is he somewhere in between because half said he was a uniter and half said he was a divider?

BTW, Bush believes he is a uniter, because everyone knows he can't divide.
