Bishop says opening window for old abuse cases isn't fair
http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051216/NEWS10/512160419/-1/NEWS

COLUMBUS - A Roman Catholic bishop made an unprecedented appearance before a legislative committee yesterday, saying the church knows it has an obligation to help victims of sexual abuse at the hands of priests.

But Bishop Fred Campbell of the Diocese of Columbus, on the job just 11 months, told lawmakers that reviving civil cases as old as 35 years would endanger church resources used for charity and education without guaranteeing protection for children.

"Is the simple removal of the statute of limitations going to protect children?" Bishop Campbell asked the House Judiciary Committee. "Are we talking about identifying perpetrators or are we talking about protecting children?"

"It's one and the same," countered Rep. Sandra Harwood (D., Niles). "By identifying them, that's how you protect the children."...

8. .....and that's the crux of the whole matter and the Catholic Church
wants to evade the truth. Isn't there a thing about this in the Ten Commandments?

"But Bishop Fred Campbell of the Diocese of Columbus, on the job just 11 months, told lawmakers that reviving civil cases as old as 35 years would endanger church resources used for charity and education without guaranteeing protection for children."

How's this for "guaranteeing protection for children" without having to spend one dime out of the collection plate, Your Excellency:

STOP FUCKING MOVING CHILD MOLESTERS FROM ONE PARISH TO ANOTHER, YOU GUTLESS PIECE OF SHIT!

(sorry, had to get that off my chest)

10. Amen!
The lowlife that shuffles the child molesting priests around is just as guilty as the one that did it.

Priest gets 15 years for assault of two boys

Appleton - A Catholic priest found guilty of four charges related to the sexual abuse of two brothers in 1978 was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison.

Father John Patrick Feeney, 77, was sentenced by Outagamie County Circuit Judge Dennis Luebke after being convicted in February of three counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of attempted sexual assault of a child.

Special prosecutor Vince Biskupic said he was happy with the length of Feeney's sentence.

"His job was to pray for young boys, but instead he preyed on them," Biskupic said.

Citing abuse, mother confronts Weakland
By MARIE ROHDE
of the Journal Sentinel staff

http://www.jsonline.com/news/wauk/may02/43924.asp

Archbishop Rembert Weakland was sitting stoically against a rear wall in the basement meeting room of St. John Vianney Church in Brookfield when Beth Glynn confronted him.

Glynn, of Brookfield, accused Weakland of going on national television several years ago and saying that little girls had enticed priests. Glynn said she had four daughters, ages 5, 7, 8 and 10, who were abused in the early 1970s by a priest.

"All he said to me was, 'Do not go to the press,' " Tom Glynn said. "He did not make one inquiry about my daughters. He did not ask about Beth or me. All he cared about was if he was going to the press."

The Glynns said they were told that the priest was going to live with his sister but later learned that it was only a matter of months before he was assigned to another parish in the diocese.

16. Riiiiight. Like, is he going to say that to someone's face?
Seriously, is he going to say that to the face of a grown survivor of childhood sexual assault at the hands of a Catholic priest? No? Than maybe Mr. Rape Apologist there should stow it.
