AP: Petition by death row inmate, 75, rejected
Petition by death row inmate, 75, rejected

SAN FRANCISCO – A federal judge has rejected California's oldest and most infirm death row inmate's petition to block or postpone his Jan. 17 execution, saying it's up to the governor to decide whether he's too frail for the process.

Lawyers for condemned inmate Clarence Ray Allen, 75, said he's too sick on death row to help adequately prepare a clemency petition for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. They also blamed Allen's maladies on shoddy health care at San Quentin State Prison.

Allen suffered a heart attack in September, is nearly deaf and blind, and uses a wheelchair.

The old guy's about to die anyway, but they still want to execute him. That makes about as much sense as putting a soon-to-be-executed convict on a suicide watch because he might deprive them of the "pleasure" of killing him. The death penalty has got to go. It is murder just as surely as the original crime.

3. Yes, but if he wasn't on death row
and wanted to end his life they wouldn't let him. Strange irony here.

5. Does not matter
what can possible be gained, or demonstrated by killing him?
