Department of Defense spied on locals, Akron group says
In a front page article available HERE the Akron Beacon Journal reports:

An Akron-based group charged Monday that the Department of Defense spied on area residents at a peace rally March 19.

The Northeast Ohio American Friends Service Committee said documents uncovered by NBC News in a Wednesday report revealed that information about the Akron gathering was included in the data. ``This is chilling,'' the Quaker-affiliated group said in a press release.

<snip>

AFSC said the NBC story focused on a 400-page report, of which eight pages had been publicly released. A second Northeast Ohio event referred to in the eight-page report, the AFSC said, involved a November 2004 meeting in Cleveland by an AFSC staff member ``to plan for a local counter-recruitment action and a bus trip to demonstrate at the presidential inauguration.''

1. Bush is putting the military (DOD) above the law by allowing them
to spy on US citizens. A lot like the King George we had a revolution against.

4. This story should be the biggest of all time
The President of the US has authorized the government to spy on US citizens at peace rallies. What the hell? This should be on EVERY front page, back page, talk show, etc. We all on DU know how the Shrub is a Dictator, but the general populace still closes its eyes to his antics. This story cannot die. Freaky my friends.

5. The Department of War, as the DOD was once more appropriately
titled, has always had problems with peace activists. I imagine their files are full to overflowing with the "intel" they've collected over the decades.

9. Impeachment is sounding better and better
It's quite obvious that Chimp can't be trusted with power; he is an abuser. Spoiled frat brats like him have no impulse control whatsoever, and should never hold elected office. K&R.

10. Oh yeah, when I hear "terrorist"
I immediately think "American Friends Service Committee." I'm glad our government is finally taking serious steps to shut these bastards down.

At least, that's the way I'm reading about half of the letters to the editor that have run in the local paper and the New York Times in the last couple of days. And I know for a fact that each and every one of these staunchly patriotic letter writers will feel exactly the same way about warrantless searches, secret detentions and other extra-legal maneuvers when it's President Hillary Clinton doing them.

11. And if any of these people tried to attend a Bush event we all know
they would be thrown out. Do they keep a log of names too?
