Republicans deny penning Strickland attack letter
Republicans deny penning Strickland attack letter
2005-12-19

Ohio Republicans reported last week that they hadn't been aware of an anonymous letter that's been going out to Democrats statewide, attacking Democratic governor candidate Ted Strickland. They said they feel certain the state GOP had no involvement in the mailing.

"The Ohio Republican Party had nothing to do with the letter," declared John McClelland, spokesman for the state party. "This is the first I've heard of the letter."

The letter, versions of which reportedly have gone out to Democratic county party chairs and elected officials statewide, reminds recipients of how Strickland, a U.S. representative from Ohio's 6th District who's running for governor, voted on a 1999 House resolution.

The congressman voted "present" (in effect, abstaining) on a vote to condemn a piece of published research by the American Psychological Association, which suggested that not all sexual encounters between adults and juveniles are highly damaging for the younger person.

1. Step #1: Deny.
I'll be keeping an eye on this story to see if the Repukes actually get caught lying-- again--in a few days or weeks.

2. Ted and his wife;
Are both licensed Psycologists. They don't want this fact known as Ted ran in a somewhat depressed part of the state. Just for the fact of him winning that district gave them hope that they could win the state.

3. Even the attack is more ideological anti-science.

My understanding is that the study they are basing their attack on: The congressman voted "present" (in effect, abstaining) on a vote to condemn a piece of published research by the American Psychological Association, which suggested that not all sexual encounters between adults and juveniles are highly damaging for the younger person. is a valid scientific study that reached conclusions that the repubs didn't like. The study was not advocating sex between adults and minors; it just said that most minors that suffer some type of sexual attack in their youth, fully recover.

It's just more of the repubs sticking their heads up their ass and denying reality.

4. Maybe the "Ohio" Republican Party outsourced it to the RNC
Then they can say, "Who, us? Nah."
