AJC poll indicates that 70% of U.S. Jews oppose the war in Iraq
Approximately 70% of Jews in the United States oppose the war in Iraq, compared to 28% who support the war, according to a poll conducted by the American Jewish Committee. The poll indicates that 60% of U.S. Jews do not agree with the manner in which the U.S. government is conducting the war on terror.

The poll, which will be published Wednesday, includes a special section on questions examining U.S. Jews' attitudes on relations with Israel. According to the poll, 59% of Jews in the U.S. have never visited Israel; 20% of those polled have visited Israel once, and another 20% said they had visited Israel more than once.

Of those who have never visited Israel, 49% cited the cost of the flight as the main reason, while 20% said security concerns were the reason, and 18% said they had never visited Israel due to "lack of interest."

Some 79% of those polled said that concern for Israel is a main part of their lives as Jews, while 19% disagreed with this statement.

Please note that most of the Jewish side of my family were rounded up and exterminated by Hitler's War machine. I was raise Roman-Catholic, but am currently a Buddhist.

If this seems like an inappropriate forum, never mind, I'll pose the question at another time.

29. Does Rep. Peter King reflect the majority opinion of New Yorkers?
No.

Does he get more airtime then nearly any elected official (at least US House delegate) from New York, at least on "punditry" type "news" shows? Yes.

Another example...is the MSM really "liberal-biased"?

Perception != Reality...unless you view the world with an open mind; through an un-obscured lens. We all know what they say about smoke and mirrors...

New York State - beyond Westchester and Rockland -- and out on "The Island" is Republican. Drive up I-81, and with the exception of Binghamton and Syracuse - it's "Red State" - "Bible Belt" - "Conservative."

Masculinity Challenged, Men Prefer War and SUVs
By LiveScience Staff
posted: 02 August 2005

Men whose masculinity is challenged become more inclined to support war or buy an SUV, a new study finds.

Their attitudes against gays change, too.

Cornell University researcher Robb Willer used a survey to sample undergraduates. Participants were randomly assigned feedback that indicated their responses were either masculine of feminine.

<snip>

"I found that if you made men more insecure about their masculinity, they displayed more homophobic attitudes, tended to support the Iraq war more and would be more willing to purchase an SUV over another type of vehicle," said Willer said. "There were no increases for other types of cars."

39. I was talking to one of my Broome County friends the other day
Hillary is popular in Broome County and in the towns with SUNY campuses - but until 2004 both of Broome County's Assembly members were GOP. Donna Lupardo (D) was elected. Tom Libous (R) is still the Senator, and Rich Bucci (R) is still the Mayor.

The 126th District has been hit with fairly massive layoffs - and Pataki helped on the first round. Hillary helped on the latest round - and campaigned for Donna Lupardo.

But I worked in Tioga - that's solid GOP.

17. That is one reason AIPAC does NOT represent Jewish people in the US
There are of course, so many more reasons.
While AIPAC sent out all kinds of alarms about Iraq, (and now Iran and Syria) it only speaks for militaristic, imperialistic few (of no particular ethnicity).
Just like AIPAC does when it supports the crazy advisors who supported the attack on Iraq, like Daniel Pipes, who was a key advisor to Bush Jr.

In the 1980's, Pipes was a supporter of military aid to Saddam. Makes sense, if your heart is set on killing as many non-European people as possible, as Pipes seems determined to do.
See the scoop on Pipes here:

35. I think many people recognize that AIPAC represents only the hawkish
portion of American Jewish thought. At least the more thoughtful of us do.

It's just that the hawks, both Jewish and gentile, are in power now. And among them are some extremely pro-Israel hawks, who are involved in setting US policy. Some people, it's true, don't seem to understand the demographics or complexities or subtleties of all this.

Besides - for an earlier generation when people hired on to a compnay for a career and a pension (like the multi-nationals headquartered in CT and DE) - you voted your employer's interests - especially if you worked in proximity to the corporate HQ.

27. Thank God for that poll
1. It should be a wakeup call to the anti-semites--some on the Left, and some on the Right-- who claim that the "Jooos" are behind the Iraq War. They have been proven to be officially full of shit.

2. This should serve notice to the Democrats that they need not support this war to satisfy their Jewish constituents. In fact, I would say that American Jews are more opposed to this war than white American Protestants.

28. I have printed this article off for an Arab friend ...
Just the other day, she was asking if I had any information on what Jewish Americans thought of all this (her Muslim friends and relatives there are also opposed to Bush's policies). So, thanks for posting!

My guess is that if they are trying to find the closest Democratic Party HQ, there's actually a pretty good chance that any Jewish person, asked at random, will be able to assist!

Towards the end of the article:
"Only 16 percent of those polled said they were Republicans, while 54 percent said they were Democrats; 29 percent said they were Independents."

It still leaves the 28% to work on. :) But that's great. Someone ought to buy a clue for jomo.
I know it doesn't transfer straight over but the elusive 29% of Americans that are blind followers of dubya love the war and think he can do no wrong.
I try to stay out of Israel discussions because they always get nasty, but Sharon seems to have had a turn around from my perspective. He seems to have softened some.

what he is gunning for. Look for a rumour about Lieberman to be named Commerce Secretary next. Week in week out, that leader of Israeli Hawk Democrats will be painted as having jumped ship and moving to the fold of the neocons.

Next week the rumour will be that Lieberman will be named assistant secretary of state. Week three (actually week five) the rumour will be that he jumped ship and becomes UN Ambassador.

And on and on.

The motion of a leader moving to the Hard Line on the Middle East Bush WH - will play out again and again and again.

So that 3% of that group of Dems will jump. Takes lots of repetition to create pathways in the minds of your soon to be supporters. And a whole lot of contempt.

IMHO.
